Patriot Day Cards (9/11 Remembrance)
Aug 2nd, 2011, 11:27am

Dear GCU ...

Just a suggestion ... considering the meaning of this Holiday, are cards that say "Happy Patriot Day!" REALLY appropriate?  Either in the title or on the card itself?  I can see it being in the key words, just in case someone who doesn't know the holiday searches by that - but isn't "Happy" kind of an insensitive use on this day?

Hi, Peggy!

Good point!  Not a happy remembrance for most of us, that's for sure.  Perhaps words leaning more toward thoughtful, remembering, thinking of, feeling, would be more appropriate?

Kind of a hard day to design cards for, IMHO.

That's true, Peggy.  I'd almost think these should be like sympathy cards.  Although, I know others that wish to celebrate the lives of those lost too - I guess it's like wishing someone a Happy Veterans Day - to many families, this isn't necessarily a happy thing to recall someone who lost his or her life.

I guess it's the way you look at it.

Definitely not a happy day -but a day of remembrance. It is also unlike veterans day/ memorial day which also celebrates the heroes from earlier wars as well as current wars where it can be more celebratory - as well as being celebrated with happy parades and picnics.

9/11/ is still very fresh in some people's minds as a day of tragedy and it has yet to evolve into a holiday for shopping sales, picnics, and happy parades. At least in NYC all the events around it are somber affairs.

Definitely do not use happy in these cards if you want to make a sale.
