Reminder Emails
May 11th, 2011, 10:42pm

Hi Guys,

This is just a thought and I will apologise in advance if this system is already in place but I was not aware or anything like that.

I saw a post about Fathers Day on the forum today and straight away I thought, oh yes I should get myself organised and upload some new cards for fathers day then realised it is only next month so I am way too late.

It was this Father day post that triggered my memory and I thought to myself wouldn't it be great if there was an email reminder or something (I know you have the choice to display upcoming holidays on your shop front) that prompts you WELL in advance (I'm thinking 6 months ahead but if other members have a better time frame suggestion then please let us know) of upcoming holidays?

The reason I am suggesting it is because I tend to forget a holiday is approaching until only a month away by which it's far too late to submit cards to be reviewed.

Would an email reminder/prompter be useful to anyone else too?? Is this something that CGU could do? I already receive emails when members post on the forum - perhaps something automated like that??.

I hope this doesn't come across as being lazy or anything, I just seem to get distracted with everything going on in day to day life and on top of that have a terrible memory for dates (terrible is an understatement, I am shocking)  Smiley

Alternatively I can set time aside and set up my own reminders on my own computer Calendar, I just wondered if other people missed time frames too or perhaps I'm the only hopeless unorganised one here haha.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Well....you could always sign up for the bigdates.com service.

Most graphic artists/Designers are used to working 6 mos - 1 year in advance. Having said that maybe this is something that the Community Newsletter can publish.

How about it Corrie?

In order to get the emails you'll probably need to subscribe to the community blog.

I don't know if this would help you in the meantime. . . Most computers have some sort of calender to them. I can input dates into Windows Calender and set a reminder. If you choose the reminder for "on date," you can enter the date you want. Therefore, you can set a 6 month prior reminder. Then it will just pop on screen when that date comes around.

Hopefully this helps until there is a more automated solution.

Very good idea Jannina!

Rachel, I think with time you'll just start thinking months in advance.  Remember Christmas in July!  Grin

After missing several holiday deadlines, I finally took a day and set up a work schedule on my computer calendar.  Has really helped.  As Jannia mentioned it's an automated solution on your own computer and if you set up the reminders, they spark some new thought.  My Halloween reminder popped up the other day and I hadn't even thought of it.  Another plus has been I don't feel rushed and can spend more time preparing art and photos and perfecting a design.

Happy creating,
Kati

Thanks Karen, I will have a look at your Dates post. But yes, I need to get organised haha... I try and put a positive spin on it by thinking even though I am too late for this years holiday I'm at least well and truely early for next years holidays  Smiley

Thank you everyone for taking the time to post some feedback and suggestions. They're always appreciated  Smiley You can guess what my job over the weekend will be... setting REMINDERS on my computer haha.

Hi Rachel - it's good to set reminders to look ahead.  I used to create new templates just before the holiday - because that is what worked for my photography clients.  Then I started (and kind of am) looking ahead a bit more.  I think I've caught up enough to be looking further out now!  But like you - I always figured if nothing else I'll be ready online for NEXT year!

I emailed Corrie when you first posted - she posts the GCU artist blog (http://gcucommunity.com ) and posts reminders for holidays we should be designing for - and I suggested a side-bar module for her blog listing the holidays, so we don't have to search for what's coming up (as far as designing for)!
