SmileyHello Randy, I've just been on your site ( love your pics by the way, Easter flowers are lovely) and noticed that you have a card which has a number of 118 on it! I just wondered how many of these you have sold?? It also got me thinking what other unusual occasions everyone else is selling or could recommend to me to think about doing? Thanks. Karen. Cool

Hi Karen,
Just to share some ideas if you're looking for new categories to create card for ...  here are some good places to start:

1. Keep your eye on the Wanted Cards thread which are customer requests:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=request

2. Look at categories that have few to 0 cards

There is a laundry list of specific Get Well / Feel Better subcategories that have very few cards like:
>>Hair Transplant
>> Knee Replacement
>> Lasik Eye Surgery
>> Carpal Tunnel
>> Cataract Surgery
>> Broken Toe

similarly for Congratulations like:
>> Becoming a Nun
>> Getting your Ears Pierced
>> Report Card / Good Grades

Hope that is of some inspiration for you!  Smiley  I'm sure you could cookup some fun vintage humor  Grin

Hello Karen,

Well none yet, but I wanted to be sure to cover all bases.  I think I have ages up to 125 years old for that series.  Whatever was the last category GCU had available.  With the new medicine available and people being more health conscious, i think we'll be seeing more people into their 100s.  I'd love to be a teen again!   Huh

Mindy has some great advice as far as trying to be very specific in categories, the more specific, the fewer cards to select from and a greater chance for a sale if someone is shopping in that category.  That's where GCU has all the other guys beat.  It's a great feature for a customer to narrow down their searches to very specific cards as it's much easier to do with search tools than having to organize display racks devoted to ultra specific categories.

I love the vintage look of your cards and am racking my brain trying to think of categories that might lend themselves more to a vintage card.  I think Mindy hit a few home runs there with her get well cards as you would have to think people who are getting hip replacements, cataract surgery and such are in their golden years and really appreciate things from the past.  Incorporating some of those old elixir ads and old country medicine material might be fun, Elixir advertisement on the front and inside text, "Well guess the ole elixir couldn't fix them eyes!  Had to go with modern remedy.  Good luck on your surgery and we'll really be able to see each other after you get well."    Ahhh, needs some work, but you get the idea!   Grin

I'll take another look at your store and see if I come up with some ideas or not.  Funny thing, it seems easier to come up with ideas for others art than your own sometimes.  Maybe you can give me some ideas?  Only fair you know!

Almost forgot to thank you for the complement on the Easter cards and flowers.  I have so many and don't always know which ones to pick from, plus the time factor creating cards when you have a day job.  It's hard enough to get out and shoot as much as I like.  So, when someone makes a nice comment on my work, it's really inspiring and greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Best always,  Randy

Hi Randy,

For now, I think you are out of luck with the older cards.   The oldest person who was 114 just died.  Good to be prepared, however.   Can you imagine living that long, wow!!!     Smiley Smiley Smiley   Rosie Cards

Yeppers Lynn, Mindy is as smart as she looks!   Huh

Actually remember reading somewhere that rather than creating a card and trying to find a category to put it in, it would be better to find a category that is sparsley populated,(limited number of cards) and creating cards to fit those not so common, out of the ordinary categories.  That makes a lot of sense to me, but easier to say than do.  It seems much funner to create something and then face the music trying to find somewhere to put it.

Still, trying to gear myself to think in reverse, finding a category and then filling it as that definitely makes sense.

Best always, Randy
