Words of warning: Download your stuff from cnet when you can. They check all programs to see if they are safe.

I've read everything on the Google Sketchup site and still can't figure if we can use it for cards

OMG! I just did a search for "text on a path" and 'Gimp' popped up in the slot! I clicked it and got the tutorial! Complicated little dickens but I'll figure it out. (Inspiration by Peggy Cool

I've been giving Aviary a try: www.aviary.com It's an online program not a download one, although you can find it in the google apps store. Doesn't cost anything.

And http://muro.deviantart.com/

The only catch with these two is you need to join to save it as far as I know. But like I said, no cost and it could be handy if your own computer isn't available with your favorite downloaded software.

Oh and I should mention http://www.brusheezy.com . Not a program, but free brushes and textures for GIMP and Photoshop. Just keep an eye on the read me files and be sure it's free for commercial as well as personal use. Most of them are, some request a link or credit. I usually give credit anyway.
