Just saying Hello!
Mar 19th, 2011, 11:09am

*Not sure if I put this in the right part of the forum, so I apologize a head of time if I did not.

Smiley Hello everyone.  I am a newbie here.  I signed up in 2009 and only had 1 card in my store.  Life kind of happened and I was not able to do more.  Then on Valentine's Day this year I sold my first copy of that card and I got excited.  Three weeks ago I began submitting.  I know there is a wait in the approval line so I am not complaining.    Now I have 16 cards waiting for approval.  I am excited to get started and for my store front to look more complete.  I am hooked up on several different Social Networking sites and looking forward to promoting my store.

From the forum posts, this place seems to be a friendly and creative environment.  I hope this really works out here for me because I am a current student for Graphic Design and this really could help bring in a little extra money and give me another outlet for my designs.  I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to everyone.  I looked forward to being a part of the GCU team.  Have an awesome day everyone!  Cool

Hi Carla!  Welcome back!  Your card is wonderful, delighted to hear it sold and offered you inspiration to continue on.

There have been a lot of changes since you were last here, so be sure to visit the GCU Wiki and brand new GCU University.  Both links can be found at the bottom of your Admin Page.

Also, this probably has not made it into the Wiki updates yet, but we just received a new tool that is very helpful.  After you create a card, in the Manage Card View, you'll see a Print / Margin Preview link under the Text Link.  If you click on that, you will get to see if your design and text are within the 'safe area'.  This can save you any returns from the review staff for being too close to the edge.

In the meantime, I'll look forward to seeing more of your wonderful art!  Good luck to you!

Thank you so much Doreen and Cindy.  I have been going through the GCU University and using the Preview Tool as well.  I will definitely let you know when my store is up and running with more cards.  Thank you again for your replies!  Smiley

Welcome back Carter... I mean Carla!

You'll get to know me as that guy lost in the 70s and 80s.   Cool

Beautiful card you have up and we're looking forward to seeing what more wonderful creations you have!

Doreen forgot to do her happy dance, but I'll do one for you in celebration of your first sale!  I know how exciting that first one is and you should savor it as it will never happen again.  The first that is!  We know with your art, you'll have many more sales rolling in as time flies onward.

Don't expect to pay for school with the money you earn here, but you might be able to treat yourself out to McDonalds every once in a while.  Grin

keep working at this and open up some other P.O.D. venues like Zazzle or Fine Art America and with several sources working together, you'll have a great supplemental income.  Also, pay attention to Doreen and a few others here, especially Doreen though!  She's a pretty smart cookie and all the help she supports us with in the forum and at her newsletter blogs, will go a long way for your continued success!  I know, cause I'm twice her age and still learn so much! This is for you Doreen -  Wink  You'll always be 29 with that energy you have.

Congrats again Carla and wish you the best here at GCU!

Best always, Randy

P.S.  - Sorry I put a K instead of C in your name.  I changed the first line too, got to thinking you might be too young to get the Carter reference abreviated as I originally did!   Grin

Randall...you are very sweet and you make me blush  Grin

I am just a firm believer of paying it forward and giving what you have to give.  It makes me happy and if it helps someone along the way that's icing on the cake...and I do love cake  Grin

I am glad to see such a positive attitude, Websprinter. As far as your sales, just hang on. You have such great fireworks cards and that "MY BAD" card is just way too funny. My husband says that all the time. I may end up buying one of them myself eventually, just for him.  Grin With all your fireworks cards, I'll bet you sell some for the fourth, if not before.

Good luck!

P.S. Doreen, I also have a cake card with candles, so you could even make a wish with your cake.  Wink

Thanks Becky! I hope your husband isn't 'really' bad. lol I have a soft spot for fireworks cause my Daddy was the only pyrotechnic for 200 miles were I grew up. Sorta like Ghost Busters, the only one they could call.  Cheesy  No candles on my cakes ... they're *Wedding* cakes.  Grin

Good Luck back at ya!

Randy,

LOL! I DO remember Welcome Back Kotter.  I loved that show when I was a kid.  I am 33 actually but one of my favorite bands is The Doors.  So your Era is cool! Smiley  Thank you for your response and compliment on my card.  I appreciate the welcoming I am receiving.  Not really expecting to pay for college but every little extra ads up to something.  I am involved in several different creative ventures at this time.  Thanks again!   Grin

Hi Carla, I just started in December and feel welcome too.  Cool
I wouldn't mind some hints where I can earn more?? I make regular sales on Zazzle but I'd like to pay for my retirement. Wink
