why not two categories?
Mar 2nd, 2011, 5:24am

I'm a bit confused.  I just had a card kicked back to me asking me to remove one of my category choices... PIN is 773099.

Reviewer states: Please Note: One card cannot serve both categories and since this is a primate, please remove the other Occasion category. Thanks

Image is of a gorilla taken at the Bronx Zoo in New York.  So, I placed this card in the zoo/jungle animal category and in the primate/monkey category.  I am being told I cannot have this card in the zoo/jungle animal section when in fact this animal was photographed in the zoo.

I did email the reviewer for clarification and I am sure I will end up doing as he/she states but I wanted to toss this out there because this is one part of the process I find frustrating other than trying to determine good keywords to use - choosing categories.  If we have the option of having a card in two categories, why can't this card be in both?  It is a zoo animal and yes it is a primate.  If GCU wants things so specialized, then perhaps we shouldn't have the option of two categories.

Any feedback would be deeply appreciated and I will make it known what the reviewer states.

I have had the same request of changing categories. I believe that what it MAY be referring to is the upper tier categories. For example an invitation can not serve in the subcategories of Occasions.

Check the wording, check the category structure and see if this makes sense.

What exact structure did you place it in?

Well, I just got home and discovered the card approved and no reply to my email for clarification.  Anyway, to answer your question... It was in the same main upper tier Occasions and it was the final selection where I put it in both zoo/jungle animals and Primates/monkeys under the Pets/Animals subcategory.

I wish the reviewer would have responded but so be it... I still would like clarification on what is required by GCU so I don't run into this again...

Sorry no reply/reason was given upon approval.  Generally yes one card cannot serve two categories but yours is a bit different...
1. both of your selections were in the SAME Occasion / Category (Thank You)
2. the two subs you chose are both fitting - (Zoo Animals and Primates)

What would NOT be permitted would be this card in two different categories ie:
>> Thank You
>> Get Well

You COULD have done this if you liked to give it broader exposure:
Thank You >> Animals / Pets >> Monkeys / Primates
Thank You >> Humor

Hope that helps, let us know if you have questions.  Also there's a good video on Categorization on the Wiki page here:

Thanks so much for the explanation, Mindy.  I'm really trying hard to meet with all requirements of GCU and head off kick backs as much as possible.  Those videos are excellent but I hadn't gotten to the Category one yet.  I'm preparing for a temp teaching job so time is being redirected.  I'll be sure to watch that one and try to be more diligent when I get back to making cards again.
