squiddo lens
Feb 27th, 2011, 12:26pm

I was trying to create a squidoo lens for promoting my St Patricks day cards. I wanted to link to only my St Pats day cards. I went to my store, and used St Pats as the search word. That showed a page with only my St pats day cards. I copied the link from my URL. But when I previewed, the link took the viewer to the Greeting Card home page.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Sandy,

What you want to do to promote your cards is use the Sell This Card Link under the thumbnail of your card.

That will not only give you the link and image of the card, but also the potential referral should a new customer stumble on the link and purchase cards from GCU Smiley

I don't know if you are an expert in Squidoo Lens or not, but if not...keep in mind a couple of things.

GCU is not on the 'white list' for Squidoo links.  What this means is that on the ENTIRE lens you can only have 9 links to GCU and that includes the Sell this Card links.  So keep that in mind, otherwise when you try to publish your lens, Squidoo is stop it and make you reduce the links.  GCU has requested to work with Squidoo and many of us have petitioned, but so far no change.

Also, unlike Zazzle, the links to GCU give only a small thumbnail image, so keep that in mind when creating your new lens!

To create a usable search from your store this is the proper HTML.  You'll need to get your 'store id number'

http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/store.asp?keyword=patricks&sto re_id=5555

replace PATRICKS with the keyword of choice and the 5555 with your store id number.  Create the search URL, test it then copy to your location of choice.

Be sure and share it with us  Smiley

Hope this was helpful!

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I worked on the lens for hours and just ended up deleting it. It just wasn't working the way I wanted it to. But I am not one to give up.

It didn't work. I went to one of my cards, clicked on sell this card. There were two possible links. I tried both, and both took me to a search engine when clicked on.

I am not having this problem with Zazzle, I created a st pats Zazzle lens instead.

I can't find my rf number for GCU anywhere.

Maybe later I will try an Easter one. Sure would like to do a GCU lens and invite all of you to add a link.

I have some links from my old squidoo days.

How to Squidoo -- A Step-by-Step Primer

Here's their update page:

Squidoo lenses by categories:

I was curious what there was about GCU on Squidoo so I did a search and got:
http://www.squidoo.com/search/results?q=GCU%2C+greeting+card+universe%2Cmaking+g reeting+cards%2C+graphics

I'm finding this lens very interesting:
how to make more sales at greeting card universe

I'm inspired! I'll work on a GCU lens as soon as I get my Easter Cards done. Wink I'll have to read through all this first.  Roll Eyes

Good luck Grandma Sandy

BTW Grandma Sandy,
What is your Squidoo Zazzle Lens URL? I'd really like to see how you did it.

Here is the url
http://www.squidoo.com/cards-and-gifts-for-saint-patricks-day

most of the images are clickable.

I am trying to make a GCU lens where everyone can add a link to their store, but I am having some problems with it. I hope to have it up and running in a few days.

For some reason when I use what GCU says is the link to my store, it doesn't work. It works everywhere else I use it. On facebook, in emails etc. I'm so frustrated!

Sandy,

Squidoo Lens are based primarily on HTML language.  In order to place a 'live link' in most modules of a Squidoo Lens you need to use the HTML code.

This is the proper language for a link:  between the "  " you paste the URL to your store and after that where you see the www.yourdomain.com you can type anything you like which is what will show and act as a link.

<a href="http://www.domain.com">www.yourdomain.com</a>

I finally figured it out, like most problems, it was a more simple than it seemed once I got over being so stressed about it.

I now have a lens all about GCU and all the talented artist who "live" in  Greeting Card Universe.  Grin

Here is the ur http://www.squidoo.com/on-line-greeting-cards

Anyone who is an artist on GCU is encouraged to add a link to their store. I will also post the url in a new thread for those who might miss it here.

PS I proofread over and over for spelling and/or grammer errors, I will be embarrased if you find any, but if you do, (gently please) let me know.

Yippeee Grandma Sandy for getting your images on Squidoo. I rated, faved and left my link. GREAT lens!

I'm rather new at Squidoo too and had a problem getting my images from GCU on my lens at first, but once you do it, it's easy. It's sad we only can get 9 images or links. It took me awhile to learn how to use Squidoo, but slowly but surely, this old brain saw the light!

Here is my latest (of 4) lenses for St. Patrick's Day. One text module has the GCU section.

I haven't used Squiddo yet - but everyone here seems too - is it really all that?

I don't need to maintain another site!  embarrassed

BUT I have decided to start using the 'Sell Card' feature on my blog - like so:

http://littlerainbowcomics.blogspot.com/2009/05/why-is-it-such-secret.html

Two of them are mine  Cheesy but one is not. From now on I will feature at least one card (not mine) with each new strip - I try to get new web comics out every Friday.

Now my comic strip is centered around specific issues so the cards featured will probably pretain to those but I won't limit the card selections. When I see cards I like they will be featured. Said cards will probably reflect coming holidays even if the strip does not.

I'll try not to use the GCU 'Hot Picks' as those get enough publicity - I'd prefer the 'unsung heroes' of GCU.

Happy to take suggestions so send me a message if  you have a favorite and/or best selling card to be considered...thanks!

Actually - maybe I'll start a 'Sell Card' thread for people to post links to their best sellers or cards that are near and dear to them...
