Approval Taking Longer Than Usual?
Jan 25th, 2011, 4:19am

I've been part of this great site for a long time, but have only recently begun to put in the time to create more inventory, spurred on by some great sales!!  I now have over 60 cards waiting for approval and have been waiting patiently for about ten days for the first ones to come through......a bit disheartening!!  Does it really have to take so long?  Makes it a bit hard to keep motivated!  I'm not about to give up, but I'd love to see the process sped up a bit! Well it's encouraging to know I'm not the only one!  Still frustrating though! And sorry, it looks like I posted my complaint twice!  The first time it seemed that it hadn't gone through so I did it again.  Smiley

the long waits have been a major complaint here for a while now... it used to take no more than five business days to get cards approved - even with resubmits... and it's averaging 3 weeks in the least... it's most annoying but I'm trying to take the advice of the more experienced card sellers and trying to plan my creations a year in advance.  Yes, I just made a mess of Valentine cards too but I have to work on what inspires me.  I'll be hopeful they get seen this year but if not I'll have a dozen or more for next year.

I think the referrals are taking an average of two weeks.

The admins have addressed this subject on the forum much. It sounds like they are striving to improve the time but it is the best they can do at this moment. With the new look and the many improvements for the artists in the create a card process I am happy for the improvements they have made and am sure that in the future the review times will be addressed further. Until then I just try to upload cards way ahead of time and not pay attention to the review time.
I have found that cards I uploaded close to a holiday last year did not sell but are starting to sell this year for the first time. I believe this is because of the time it takes for search engines to pick them up. You'll be in good shape for next year if they are Valentines. Smiley

Yep, I have several that have been waiting for awhile. It's been a couple of months since I have submitted cards, so I'm trying a new strategy. I try to submit cards every day, that way, when they start getting approved I will have some to rejoice over every day. I'll be designing Christmas cards this week.

I do understand that it's a good idea to plan well ahead here.......and I don't mind making the cards and then putting them out of my mind.  But if this is a common complaint (and I don't doubt that it is) it would seem to me that it would make good business sense for a company like GCU to REALLY address it and do whatever it takes.  The artists who create the cards are vital for their company to succeed and it's only a matter of time before another site comes along with the promise of shorter wait times......just my humble opinion!

Great strategy, Angela!  Maybe I should be thinking ahead to next Christmas instead of hoping to sell Valentine cards this year yet!  I'll be happy when the bottleneck opens up and even ONE of my batch of 60 cards gets approved!  That will give me incentive to keep designing! Smiley

your exact argument was mine if you check back into the archives of the forum... I said the same thing... but the more experienced said it's best for us as the artists to plan six months in the least to make cards.  Yes, it's very hard to do because I work when the inspiration hits me.  But, until GCU is able to ramp up efforts in speeding up the review process, then I have to live with things until then and try to follow suit as suggested by other artists.  I didn't realize it takes so long for search engines to pick up the cards so it's an investment over time if the cards end up selling.

And by the way, I have to put in a plug for Tom's tutorial videos... they are so very helpful.  Check the GCU Wiki University for them... helps get a stronger foothold on how to produce good cards and help alleviate some of the kick backs that might end up in further delays due to edits.

Hi Joyce,
Just remember the review process benefits you also, as your cards will have a better chance to be found, instead of being buried amidst a bunch of irrelevant or substandard cards.
Also don't forget that GCU promotes your cards too, through its many affiliations with reminder sites.

Hang in there! kiss

Thanks, Donna and Pamela, for your replies.  I'm actually reconciled to the idea of waiting (although I can't say I love it!) but I was getting worried that perhaps my cards had been "lost" somewhere, since my earlier cards were approved in a much faster time frame.  It's good to know that they're still in line, and I will just work on being patient and thinking ahead!  I do truly appreciate the benefits of this site! Even if I do get cards approved two or three months ahead of time, it generally takes until the following year before they sell well if they are holiday related. That's why I design cards at least six months ahead of time if I really want them to sell.

Yes, I see I really need to think "long term" here.......as opposed to Zazzle, where it's all instant! I feel better now that I've vented a bit and been encouraged by you all! Smiley

Just to Share...I also have learned to be patient, as I've seen an influx of cards, slowly be approved and mostly because of a near-by holiday. I see GCU as "QUALITY" first.. as per "QUANTITY".
Zazzle is great but the Quality can be limited.
