Nasser_16 GCU Administrator CEO Posts: 152	Reducing SPAM on GCU Forum Jan 18^th, 2011, 6:47pm In response to the increase in GCU forum SPAM entries recently, we just implemented an additional step necessary to join the GCU site. Using the CAPTCHA process requires the users to complete an image recognition task to complete their registration with GCU. Lets hope this reduces or hopefully eliminates the SPAM issue

This is great news, thank you!
The person/s responsible obviously found it too easy to get in and be a nuisance. I was trying to report each post as quickly as I could so they could be removed, but in the end they were doing it too much and it meant I needed to sit here 24-7 just to watch for them! I`m a busy person and as much as I wanted to help catch them, I can`t do that!
Lets all hope this stops them. It would be useful too if like I suggested before, a filter on member names was put in... they usually give themselves a giveaway user name and if certain words/phrases were banned that might help!
Also a lot of forums I belong to have it so members/posts have to be approved and/or use a password to enter, that also keeps out the unwanted content! Those who are genuine won`t mind as they know they should not have to encounter such rubbish when they do get in. Just a thought!

that's a good idea too Karen... I own a group on Yahoo and I can moderate posts for any length of time and when those people prove their identity then I can remove the moderation and they can post freely. I know it's another thing to have to monitor but if it keep the riff raff out of our forums then it's worth it in the end.
