Santa was good to me :-)
Dec 27th, 2010, 11:45am

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  Santa said I'd been very good and because my sales grew nearly 100% this year from last year I needed to upgrade my equipment...and boy was he serious about it  Grin

My art computer was dying a very slow death so Santa brought a Quad Core AMD Phenom2 64 bit replacement complete with Windows 7...and because Santa did his research, he gave me Corel Painter 11 because Painter 9 did not support 64-bit.

Then Santa decided that my EOS10D at a pathetic 6.5 mp would not due and he brought me an EOS-7D at a whopping 18mp with a Macro Lens.  Because I used CS3 and Bridge to work with Raw format images and he found out CS3 does not support the 7D raw format, Santa included an upgrade to CS5!

Just for fun and to make life a little sweeter for me, Santa also gave me a Canon SX130 12-mp Power Shot camera so I'll always have a camera on me  Grin

Believe me, I am not always this spoiled, but every few years or so my hubby of 30-years gets on a roll and can't stop himself  Grin

Did anyone else get something awesome that will help in your design business?

Happy New Year!

Yeah, he's a great guy and a good shopper too.  He really did his homework and got some amazing prices on all this stuff so I've taught him well  Grin

Wow Doreen, how wonderful for you that Santa knew just which design tools you needed the most. You have a husband like I do....loves to do the research into which products are the best for certain jobs. I've been looking at the Canon EOS..... cameras. MY Santa can't afford one "just yet", but one day his little elf will have better camera equipment. For now, for my florals, etc. it is just fine.

On the other hand, I am "limping" along on very outdated programs for my Mac G5 with the newest OS 10 upgrade (Snow Leopard) and once it updated..... it wasn't compatible to all of my design tools: PhotoShop, InDesign are the main ones. (now using PhotoShop Elements) These are essential for my freelancing, especially InDesign, which I have used for 16 years and while working for a magazine publisher. I've had to turn some jobs down, but have discovered how to get CS5 from a non-profit, of which I am part.  So, hopefully, I will be able to obtain updated software at a greatly reduced price. Thank you, belatedly, Santa for that gift!   Cheesy

Lucky girl! You are going to love the 7D. I got mine earlier in the year and am loving it. Ditto the new PC and CS5. My new toy is an iPad. Super fun and works very nicely as a backup device for my images when traveling. Way lighter than a laptop.

New toys certainly assist the creative process. GCU also looks pretty good from a iPad.  Smiley

Cheers,

Hi Elizabeth,

I've had Canons since 1980 and have always been pleased.  In 1990-ish, I moved to the 'at the time brand new' EOS line with the professional EOS-1 film based cameras.  Had 2 of those, then the 1N's and when the digital era came, an EOS-D30 and 10D...again at the time, great cameras.  The 7D is an extraordinary beast and my favorite yet  Smiley

Hi Doreen,
I, too have had Canons, probably since the early 80s and have always loved the quality. I'll have to bide my time until 1) the prices come down or 2) my ship comes in!   Roll Eyes  I'm happy to hear your advice regarding the 7D. I just keep repeating and hinting to my husband.....EOS, EOS, EOS and he knows....like a whisper in the wind.......

Santa was very good to you Doreen.  He gave me a 7 day Cruise that we just returned from on the 12th of December, so I was able to get a lot of new photos for cards.   I already have CS5, but I still have a lot to learn on that hugh program.   Happy Holidays all.   Rosie Cards

Oh Rosie...what a wonderful gift!  I hope you had a delightful time.  I LOVE cruises, its been about 10-years since I was on one.  Where did you go?

Janet, congrats on the great sales (me too) and great job rewarding yourself with an iPod.  I have not gone that route yet...maybe some day.

Hi Doreen,

We went to Puerto Rico, Grand Turk and Virgin Islands, it was very nice, good way to take a vacation.
Have you tried out your 7D yet, that sure is a nice camera?    Rosie Cards
