GCU stats
Dec 12th, 2010, 8:17am

Just catching up with my stats.  I'm sure it was mentioned that November had blow-out sales.  Not sure if it was profitable for GCU, Black Friday and all, but at a minimum a lot of cards were mailed and hopefully it will lead to a wave on new regular GCU shoppers.

I left off the "numbers" but you can see the trend is finally turning up after a rather flat year.

Congrats to GCU and all the Artists!

What I find interesting is that if you look back to Jan 2009, the average card order was for approximately 2 cards, since the lowest line on the chart was about half of the upper line.  But look how that gap has increased, suggesting the average cards per order has grown, hitting a high of about 5 cards per order last month.

That's excellent GCU!

Do you think that is because more artists have brought more people with them to shop here?

It is hard to say, Rebecca.  I'd like to think the artists bring "followers" who buy above the normal number of cards per order, but I suspect it has more to do with GCUs use of FREE SHIPPING on orders of "X" Qty.  They initially did not do that, but I can see how they have increasingly used this promo to increase the size of the whole order.  This may not be any more profitable, but it gets more GCU cards in circulation and that should result in more buyers finding us, feeding further growth.

It has been great seeing GCU grow, but the actual revenue per year is not that much.  After paying for printing and postage, the artist gets the next big chunk.  GCU then has to pay several programmers, accountants, admins, reviewers, and the office expenses which including data servers.  Those of us who have been around have had our fingers crossed, because we have jointly put in a lot of work into this venture - many millions of mostly uncompensated hours creating the company and its fabulous library of card art  ... and humor!   Wink.

So far so good ....
