Store Headers
Nov 29th, 2010, 4:59am

What are the actual dimensions of the store headers supposed to be? I am having problems with my header being cut in half. I have looked at other stores and many of the stores I clicked on are cut in half also...I am making mine 950 by 150, and saving them at 300 DPI. I have also tried saving it at 150 DPI, but it still cuts it off. Any suggestions?

I believe that it is the RATIO that is important. The ratio of height to width must be no more than 1:5. So for example, in my store, my header is 539x2329, which is a ratio of about 1 to 4 and it shows up great though not all the way across. The pixels are not as important as the ratio of the pixels, though the larger the pixel size, the sharper the image. Your ratio is 1 to 6. So you need to either make it narrower or taller and the site will resize it proportionally to fit. The DPI is not relevant to fitting in the space. The DPI only changes the resolution of the image making it either blurry or sharp. 300 DPI is the better resolution. It is the 950x150 that you have to change to make it fit.  Change it to 950x230 or 150x750. If these numbers distort part of the header you have to work with the images and text within the header to keep the total height to width ratio at no more than 1:5. (so the width can't be more than 5 times the size of the height).  I am new to this site, and very happy BTW, so I am no expert, but I know images, resolution, size, etc and that is my thinking.

Hi Tammy,
In the past people have complained about the header not showing up correctly and the problem has been with the web browser they were using, refreshing the web page usually put it right.

Hi Tammy,
I second what Martin said. If it has been OK up until now I suspect it is the site as I have heard of this happening before to folks ........and they are probably doing a lot of tweaking and changing since they said they we will be having a new look soon.
If it doesn't correct I would post in support before you try to change things. Smiley

Tammy, your dimensions are correct at 950 x 150.  Those are the dimensions stated in the Store Settings area.

I am wondering if you need to check the "center" box under the header preview in Store Settings?  If you go to your store settings there are check boxes to Hide-Left-Center-Right, your image.  Have you checked the box to center your logo?  Perhaps that will adjust the look of the header in your store.  Just a thought.

Hope this is helpful.

I've noticed the same thing, in multiple stores - the full header box from TOP to BOTTOM doesn't always load correctly , but a refresh takes care of that.  It's annoying!  I use that box to promote my seasonal "your photo here!" offerings ... check it out - but know you might have to refresh - LOL!  Wink

EDITED TO CORRECT:  It's not the Header that I have issues with, it's the WELCOME box ... sorry for the confusion!

Well- I uploaded my original header- and tried refreshing the page, however that is not working. The header is centered. Hmm...
