BOC credits issue
Nov 15th, 2010, 12:14pm

I recently received an order of 20 cards.  On the back where it shows the new (and I love the concept) "Original design by..." there is a challenge. The bottom of the back of the card (BOC) is cut off.  Looks to me by @ 1/4", perhaps the % that the added line compromised?  The majority of the cards affected in my order are of the 5x7 vertical variety, however there were a couple of 7x5 horizontal cards that were adversely affected as well.  I am not asking to be refunded or to have 'new and improved' cards resent.  I just wish to alert you of this printing issue.

BTW, the odor issue still exists, but it doesn't chase me out of the room,...I kind of like it...it reminds me of, well, the 60's... "back in the day" when my parents were so proud of me for putting together those intricate plane models with that special glue (emphasis on the glue)... The odor it is still present, after over 48 hrs., and I request that that unresolved issue is looked into as well.

The packaging was superior, color quality grand.  I celebrate the card quality as well, however, if my logo is compromised, I prefer not to have the "Original design by" line included on my BOC credits....unless you choose to add..."The exquisite design you have chosen is the original work of art by (Flying Horse Design), however the flying mare has nothing to do with the printing or cropping of this card. Grin
P.S.  The snuffing of this card is not approved by GCU nor advised by the Attorney General."   Grin Grin Grin

That was a joke/FYI and I hope you are chuckling... Roll Eyes  I also hope you put it on the front burner (being careful of flames and so on and so forth)...perhaps we should start designing face masks?  All kidding aside, I will be clear:

1)  The toxic odor is unacceptable.
2)  BOC credits need adjustment
3)  What ever issues you have with 'printing partners' need to be resolved...cheezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeee...isn't this a productive market???  Odors, poor fold, etc., ...???  You are the active voice of this verbal community, speak for us, advocate for us.  Thanks

That stinks Linda.. l0l>   Grin    Just making a pun..  Seriously though.. Every time I read these types of posts the past few months I get a little freaked out.  I think.. >  "What is the buyer thinking about all this and will it stop them from buying again"?   I would think this is all printer 101 kinda stuff too..  I am not in the business so I can not be sure but.. seems basic enough..  Fold, odor,  text placement..  just from what I do here on my home printers.   Hopefully GCU will get these things resolved with the printing partner once and for all.. they should only be the occasional not the norm for sure.   I will wait on ordering my Holiday cards to see if that happens..  Thanks for the update on this topic too~  Smiley  Lj

Linda are you able to scan and send us a picture of one of the cards where the back did not print correctly?  If so can you email to shaun@bigdates.com?

Shaun, I noticed the same thing with my last order too (BOC margin cut off and smell). I also had an issue with the fold on my cards. It looked like someone took a dull knife and scraped the color off the edges down to the white. It really looks horrid! I contacted customer service and am getting replacement cards but I'll send you a photo of the card folds so that you can see what I'm talking about. Hopefully this was an isolated issue.

I also had issues with my last order ... haven't had the time yet to write to customer service.. (Must do this week)
My BOC image doesn't show on the back of card.. This is the 2nd time for my orders.. I suspect all my cards being purchased are not showing my BOC image. Sad

Also the fold was peeling like the coating was flaking off..

The inside text was scrunched all together AND the inner text had an appearance as if when you print on  your home printer and the cartridge is skipping ink.. it had small dots in the text...

I have since had purchases of my cards from customers.. I only HOPE they are not receiving the same or I will probably not have any returning sales from them. Sad

I will contact via private message to customer support soon as I can.

Hi Shaun...I'll take a photo of the card(s) and then send it to you tomorrow.  Can't do anything about it tonight.

Shaun,
I took a photo of one of the cards that has the BOC cut off issue and sent it to your email address this AM.  Here is a link for those those that would like to see what I am addressing.

Mine (BOC credits) appear acceptable (they are real close to the edge though and could possibly be cut off if moved ever so slightly) on my recent order but I do notice a chemical smell to the cards and am having to air them out before I can take them down to the store where I am going to start to offer a few of my cards for sale as I do not want to sale chemical smelling cards to my customers.  It seems to be only on the glossy cards and not as strong of a smell on the matt cards.

One of my images on the front of the card is stretched though.  I've ordered this card before and it did not appear like that in the past.  It is not too bad.  An untrained eye might not notice but I did.  I'm not requesting new cards to be sent but I really would like the chemical smell of the cards looked into.  I fear it might start chasing away my recent customers if they open their order and notice a chemical smell to the cards.  Thank you.

Edit to add:  5 more cards I ordered in a different shipment just arrived.  Like Tanya says with these 5 the fold looks horrid.  The fold is cracked with the white showing through like someone took a knife blade across it.  It is on 4 of my 5 newest cards like this.  The 5th card is matte and does not have this issue.  So I am thinking there is something wrong with the gloss coating method the printer is using.

we're looking into the BOC issue as well as the issues of colors peeling off around the fold and the smell from the UV coating.

I got my replacement order and to my shock the folds look just as bad as the ones I got before! I told customer service what the problem was, they assured me they would communicate this to the printer. Why did the printer even bother sending me these cards? I ordered the cards for a very important holiday sale at a local high end pet boutique. They went out of their way to make room for my cards (at my request) and now I'll have to tell them I don't have cards to show after all. Very embarrassing!

We won't be buying any more cards till this issue is resolved.  Sad

This is a photo of my cards, if you want to see them.

Since there are issues arising from the glossy finish, which causes the spines to peel and a bad odor, I am changing my Global Preferences back to the Matte finish until this problem can be addressed.

After seeing the photo, I too have changed my default to matte finish.  Good suggestion Sher.  I hope this problem gets resolved soon.

How very disappointing and I certainly feel your frustration Tanya...that's not good for your reputation in the community nor your pocketbook!

The only concern I have with changing global preferences to matte finish is photographs really look sickly on the matte finish.

With all the changes to printers over the past year, I sure hope you can get this one to fix these issues.  Customers are placing bulk orders right and left, what are they receiving?

Doreen, have you actually seen photos with the matte finish from this printer?  I had ordered matte a while ago (I think it was from a previous printer) and they were very lovely.  But if you have seen photos in matte from this printer and thought the photos did not look good in matte I am not sure what is best.

Thanks for you insight.

Tanya, sorry this happened to you.  It is disappointing.

Hi Kathy,

No...I was not happy with previous printers Matte Finish, so I haven't ordered anymore.  Afraid I can't say whether this printer would be better or worse from that standpoint...and keep in mind it may just be my own personal preference.  I don't like photographs to look muddy and my experience, even when I printed my own cards for years, is that Matte card stock and Matte Photographic paper are very different, the Matte card stock more often than not results in a muddy photograph...to my eyes anyway  Grin
