Hiring more people to approve cards?
Oct 18th, 2010, 9:11am

We really need to hurry up the approval process. My last card approved (not counting fast track) was 2 weeks ago. I have one Halloween card that is going to miss the day. Is it possible to hire a few more people to approve cards? Thanks-Gail undecided

it's taken over 3 weeks for my last card, I wanted to buy some of my own cards but one of the ones I've submitted has been approved yet and I need to order early because I'm in the UK Sad

Hi Gillean

I am from the uk, the way I get arround getting my cards early, is to place them inside your personal
store bit, that way you can waiver the review and order them for yourself asap.

Hope that is some small help

Gillean,

Just a tip....when I want to order my own cards quickly this is what I do:

1) I upload the card(s) as "Private Gallery" "waive review".  That way the card is available for me to order almost immediately or at least within a few min.

2) I still upload the card(s) via the regular process for the general public at the same time.

This way I get my cards quickly, and eventually the cards are still available for purchase by the general customer.

Hope this helps!
Linda

As always great advice on how to order your own cards quickly  Wink

Just wanted to mention that even if your Halloween cards were approved two weeks ago, the chances of them being found by search engines in time to be purchased for this Halloween is almost zero.  If you can get yourself into a schedule where you are working 3 to 4 months or more in advance of the holiday your cards will be approved in plenty of time and the search engines will have time to find them  Smiley

I did this in 2010 for the first time and finally understood where the "Christmas in July" saying came from...it must have been holiday designers  Grin

Doreen,
I try to do the same thing, design and submit well in advance, 3-6 months.  This has been working out well for me and is excellent advice...cuts back on the "I want my cards approved stress syndrome". Grin  Which is a very real symptom of designing.  I know all about it, lol, having been 'spoiled' by "back in the day" when cards were approved faster!

I'm curious since I came on here when cards were approved in no more than 5 business days - what exactly is included in the review process?  Is there a way to streamline things if there's a problem with volume?  I'm at least two weeks in for my latest cards and I don't just sit and make them day in and day out... most of my work is through digital art means or photographs so inspiration for particular cards sometimes comes on the fly when something hits me - oh, that pic would make a great...

I posted before asking about why all of a sudden it's taking so long and I don't know if a reply has been made.  Granted, I am still a major newbie to all this but can't something be done about it?  Can we as artists help with this process?

I have a feeling it has something to do with the increase in artists. GCU seems to be growing exponentially. I joined end of July this year and there were around 2750 artists, so in 3 months this has increased to 3970.  I can only imagine what volume another 1000 artists upload.

I hadn't really thought about it myself but I guess when put this way 2 weeks is sounding good. Perhaps we all need to take the tips from Doreen and Linda and be more organised when designing.  Wink

I still say if GCU is growing then it only makes sense to bring on more reviewers... is that really going to accomplish things if there is a continual backlog and nothing is done to fix that?  I'm not a great business person but logic would seem to dictate that if you have more artists submitting tons of cards, then this must be dealt with on the other end... or help us artists so we can streamline the process... I'm sorry, but it makes zero sense to me if I happen upon a design that hits me on the fly and I have to wait a month to get it put through the review process (then heaven help if there is a need for fixes).

Donna, here here, I agree...
The more artists joining (and that is good), the more need for more reviewers...I think this is a 'no brainer'.  Just why this hasn't happened I, don't know.  To me it makes sense for GCU to put this at the front of the "back burner" as it has repeatedly been an addressed issue in the forum as far back (Dec 2007) as I have been here.  I do know that gcu hears input and I trust that this will be addressed soon.

I will also say that I understand a tad about marketing and getting cards/designs out there at least 3-6 months in advance, that is the design standard...so be it, that is something we all need to be cognizant of, and for the most part we are.  However I firmly support having more reviewers to compensate for the influx of fine designs by more artists.

Again, more artists, more cards, MORE need for reviewers.

well, here's more questions - are the reviewers paid people or volunteers?  If it's a paid job, sign me on... I'm currently unemployed... giggle snort...

Really now, I can understand getting things done ahead of schedule but this is nuts - and if it's been a problem for some time, then why isn't GCU doing something about that?  Would they not be shooting themselves in the foot to also keep their artists happy and coming back with their work?

Why cant' they hire artists who have been here a long time to help out with the review process? They have a pretty good idea where things go and if they get stumped on a card they could ask a real reviewer to help out? This would give artists more money in their pockets and lots of motivation to hang around and do a good job at learning what goes where. I think if you have been here say two years, you should be able to apply for a reviewer job as well as being an artist. Of course, you wouldn't be able to review your own cards, but you could help with the overload which could in the long run create more sales for all of us. Just an idea.

Who here would actually apply for a reviewer job if they had been here for two years (even if you haven't yet)? I know I would. More money motivates me.  Grin
