Sep 27th, 2010, 8:43pm

11:43 PM here in Maine and the inner verse is placing too high and will not allow me to space it down.
Thanks!

I have been having trouble getting some of mine to go where I want it tonight too.  The top line only for me.. so far..   Maybe tomorrow it will not do that.. with any luck..  Smiley

See forum thread here: http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1283511769/30#30

I was experiencing similar challenges and Mindy's reply included:

"Important to note that you should not over edit your inside verse with forced line breaks and spaces to manipulate alignment.  This causes issues for the shopper when they enter their own text.  This is what I believe you are experiencing when trying to force line breaks at the top of your verse."

Not really clear what that means completely.  Mine was just a simply typed invite with an opening invite words then date-time-place underneath it. A total of maybe 25 words.  I see the cursor at the very end of the last word. Could you elaborate for me on exactly what is meant by "line break" please?  Many Thanks~

I don't know if this will be helpful but I had a similar problem once. I highlighted the empty space behind and beneath my verse and then hit delete. That brought my verse down where it was suppose to be.

Hi Tanya.

Yes.. I am now doing similar on all of them. but..  I still do not understand exactly what it is and apparently I can not see it when it's happening.   I do try to line up text to look better and such for the invitations but have never had this happen here till recently here or never in other sites..   Not being all in the know for every lingo-term used I am curious what it is and how to detect it and then remove it before edit returns and such.   I did not see it addressed in any info (wiki etc.) here and would like to avoid it.. whatever it is in the future since it holds up progress and hinders the buyer from what I understand.  Do you know what it is exactly?   Smiley

Hi Sue and Lj,

I have done exactly what Tanya suggested with positive results.  I think what happens is that because the text and format remain in that box from the previous card, sometimes 'extra' lines build up and because they are invisible to us, we don't realize that is what's happening.

It started happening to me the other day and this is what I did to nip it in the bud. I copied my verse and then I deleted it. I then hit the save button like I wanted the card to be blank. I then clicked the verse box again and pasted my verse back in. That seemed to set everything back to normal. Otherwise, it seems to start building up those invisible spaces right away again.

Don't know why this happens but Doreen probably is on the right track with her hypothesis.

We are in the process of introducing a new inside text preview that will prove to bring these improvements...
1) accurately reflect how it will print
2) more clear (some fonts appear grainy in the old preview)  *Tom's been begging for this *
3) eliminate errors shoppers are experiencing due to artists over manipulating the inside verse with extra spaces and forced line breaks

You are seeing these changes starting today on the NEW cards you're creating but the new previews are not yet regenerated for existing cards.  We are waiting to do that after some further testing.

As you are experiencing we are stripping out the top most and bottom most forced line breaks so the inside verse is being (as it always was) automatically vertically aligned in the center of the message box.  This is different than centered in the full card space as the message box does not take into account the closure which is reserved for shoppers so it may appear a bit higher than your eye is expecting.  This is a natural placement to accommodate a shopper's closure/signature.

Shortly we will introduce vertical alignment options for you if you do not care for the automatic vertical center alignment.  You will be able to choose from (as will the shopper) vertically aligned - top, center, bottom.

Until that time please allow your verse to reside vertically aligned and do not over manipulate the spacing/alignment.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns!  If you have experiencing anything peculiar with a given inside verse please post back with the pid# so we may investigate.

Thank you!

*UPDATE* after reviewing many test cards we will NOT be stripping out forced line breaks at the TOP of your verse so you WILL still have some control on bumping your verses down if you like.  (Thanks to Sue B for her input).

WoW! Sounds great Mindy.

Still have some questions on invitations.

On this one should there be an extra space between date, time, place when it is centered on the card.... so customer can write in under the word (as was discussed in previous posts)?
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/zoom.asp?pid=616093&w=1&ref =details_large_view
or
should we do them all like this one with lines after date, time, place?
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/zoom.asp?pid=613833&w=1&ref =details_large_view

I realized these two examples still have words in parentheses and I'm working on editing all my invitations to take out parentheses, just haven't gotten to these yet.

Thanks!

Will this effect cards that are already online that have forced line breaks and extra spaces reverting them to "high vertical alignment" and un-separated blocks of type?

I'm sure this will continue to add to the great quality as it improves the consistency and ease of use with the cards.   Cheesy

We are now in the process of regenerating all of the inside verses & card previews across GCU.  We expect this to be complete by end of day Monday (10/4).

YES, you may see some spacing and alignment adjustments on your cards so it is recommended that you do some spot checking starting on Tuesday (10/5) particularly on cards where:
- you've overly manipulated the alignment & spacing
- there is a lot of text

We will continue to spot check not only cards on the site but card orders before they are sent to print.

Please note all newly created cards (as of 9/29) are using the new previews.

Let us know if you have any questions or see anything peculiar, thanks!

Hi Kati,
Either way is fine however I personally think the one with the lines is more natural and works best.
