You just have to keep waiting...the reviewers will get to them eventually. It's just taking a bit longer these days that's all.  Cheesy

My cards took way longer than a week and I still have cards that were submitted at the same time that still haven't been approved. I heard the summer is slow. I'm going to start submitting holiday cards so they'll be good to go by November.

So, how long does it actually take on average at the moment? I just signed up and am wondering now if this place is for me :/ I put in two test cards to test the process time and procedures and I am a little disappointed.

I think a review process is a great idea to keep a site clean but if its not working when people are trying to earn then its not as helpful as it seems.... What are peoples average waiting times? at least if I and others had an idea, we can submit on a schedule to ensure stock updates.

Regretting not just submitting the lot at one time but wanted to try it out first and I also like to add regularly rather than bulk appear to keep customers coming back for a peek.  Right now - my store is empty!

I`m a newbie too, and a bit disappointed in the review time. I also use Alamy for my photo`s/illustrations, and it`s usually 4 or 5 days at the most. The categorising procedure is a bit more complicated at GCU, so a few of mine have been rejected, and I`m still waiting for them to be reviewed again......all in all......discouraging.

I have one photograph, which was queried if it was mine, as it was found on my Flickr photostream.
That was on the 29/7, I`ve replied straight away confirming that it is mine ( I even use the same user name" Drawsome") and as I write this, it`s still pending.

ps: I would think the artist/photographers numbers are only going to grow....

I don`t mean to get above myself as a newbie here, or be over critical.

Well reviews are taking longer now, 2 weeks is not unusual, and it is often a cause for frustration to all of us artists at one point or another.

First Welcome to GCU to the new folks,  Smiley and I feel I have to defend the GCU review process, as tedious and long as it may seem.

Some points that come to mind to make the wait easier are...

The catching of typo's, details too close to the edge, and the placement of cards into correct categories, all add up to a superior product that GCU can guarantee and a better shopping experience for the shopper.

As an artist being associated with a site where it is managed closely to ensure a high level quality product and a pleasant shopping experience is a GOOD thing to be associated with.

GCU pays careful attention to copyright infringement, in doing that they ultimately protect you, we all know that some folks think nothing of taking another's images and profiting from them. If they are your images it's just a minor 'blip' in the review process.

As far as stores, I love my store and try to keep it as user friendly as possible, but I have learned since being here that very few shoppers go to my store to shop my cards. They buy from Google searches, or browsing GCU categories, or GCU site searches, or from the many 'reminder' services that are part of GCU. The successful artists here do market their cards and stores, so your store definitely has value but it's not the only way folks find you.

Finally, don't get discouraged, Smiley it does take time for the search engines to find you and your cards. Just keep designing and uploading and don't stress the reviews. Keep your eye on the 'Wanted card' thread where customers request cards not found on GCU, you can get your cards in there before the category gets too big. Design cards for specific categories, the general categories are huge and you have a better chance to be seen in the smaller more specific groups.

Above all else...have fun.

and make use of the GCU Wiki here it contains a wealth of information to get you up and running.

or ask away on the forum, we're a friendly bunch of artists who have all receieved help along the way from others and happy to pass it on.

Welcome Newbies!!

Pamela, as always, has given excellent advice and information.  I only wanted to add that I, as do many of you, have my work on many other sites.  Yes, the GCU review cycle is the longest, however it is also the most thorough.

I find a lot of poor quality, poorly designed work on other sites and when I create something new and have to weed through 15-pages of mostly low-standard product just to find mine, it is very frustrating.  You don't have that at GCU.  Because of this lengthy review cycle, cards are all good quality creations so customers return again and again.  You can be proud to have your cards viewed beside those on this site.

One more thing to keep in mind...it takes search engines 3 to 5 months to find your new cards and have them come up in searches, so if you keep that in mind, work that far in advance of holidays and special occasions, then you won't worry about how long the reviews take and can just sit back and create.  This is the world of REAL greeting card creation.  All greeting card designers for major companies work up to a year in advance.  It's Christmas in July!  Go forth and create!

Good luck to all of you!

Well I can say for sure from the lovely response from Pamela and Doreen that this is truly a very supportive site. Thank you both for such informative responses that were warm and helpful to us 'newbies.' I do appreciate the process here because designing quality cards is an art in itself that goes beyond the photo and illustration. I also appreciate how conscientious GCU is about copyright because I see a violation of it quite often on many other sites. The stealing of art, music and movies in our society is rampant and very sad. I know that it does take time, self-promotion and a lot of networking to get things going in the real world as well as on the net. Patience is definitely a virtue.
Thanks again,
Laura Smiley

Aloha Pamela, thank you so much for your wonderful informative response. I opened an account yesterday02 August 2010 and began by uploading and publishing 8 images, only one of which has been approved at this time. I was about to post an inquiry on the forum when I saw this thread and you have answered my question on why it is taking so long to appear, so thank you. Like most professionals, I like instant results and building my portfolio is important to me for marketing my work on GCU so it will be challenging for me to be patient with the long review process as I wish to launch my new site now and market my storefront. I will take your advice and simply continue uploading and hope my images will appear in my gallery soon.

Aloha 'oe,

Sharon Mau
