I hate to beat a dead horse, but....
Jul 12th, 2010, 2:58pm

When there is an inconsistency in reviews is it acceptable to ask the review to reconsider?  I've already done this (asked for reconsideration) and I'm not sure if I'm getting myself a bad reputation... undecided

I recently completed two series of cards for Grandparents Day, one for Grandmother and one for Grandfather, with all sorts of variations of terms for both on the front of the card.  On the Grandmother cards all of the variations were approved, but the reviewer (a different reviewer) of the Grandfather cards declined a bunch of them saying the front was too similar since all of the terms meant the same thing.

The note from the reviewer that declined the cards sounded a bit stern and angry to me, so I'm not sure if I should push my luck.  But then again, I don't want to miss an opportunity to sell a card because PopPop made it but Gramps didn't.

I have disagreed with reviewers even on categories, and I just point out why I wanted a card put in that category and like you said to reconsider.
Sometimes it works, sometimes...I have to consider their point of view.
There are so many nick names for grandparents these days, when you get right down to it...they all mean the same thing, One persons Gramps is another persons Papa...so I do not think asking the reviewer to reconsider is out of the norm.
Good Luck! Janet Lee Smiley

Steve, I'm not complaining about the reviewers....  I have said a number of times that I am totally cool with the review process, it helps keep the designer out of trouble i.e. with copyright issues, and more importantly keeps the standards and quality of cards on the sight high.

As a relative newbie (I've been here since March) I was asking to get a feel for what would be considered proper etiquette.  I do know that, based on information from other posts that GCU is in a constant state of change and improvement.  Very often they best way to improve is to listen to the problems and issues of the people using your service.

The crack about the dead horse was only because I know I saw a couple forum topics just last week about reviewer inconsistency, and I'm sure it's been a topic many times before that.

So, if any reviewers are reading this... No I am not putting you down, I just want to make sure I'm not missing any opportunities, nor do I want to continue to repeat the same mistakes.  I think as a general rule the reviewers do a   job.

Hi Rita,

I doubt that the reviewer was stern or angry...probably just pooped  Grin  Considering the number of cards and emails they deal with every day, I imagine that on occasion they may come across a bit testy, but it is never personal...they just need to be fed  Grin

I often email back and forth with the reviewer until one of us sees the other point of view and we can move forward.  Most of the time I lose, but I am always listened to and I willingly concede to those who know more than I do about such matters.

As long as you are cordial and open to discussing your thoughts without attitude (as I KNOW you are based on all your posts on the forum) go ahead and inquire...they don't bite Grin

Hi Riti,

I think the 3 max per category of same image may apply to your situation.  So would be like this:

Under category:Grandparents Day
sub cat: for grandma/grandmother (3 variations allowed)
subsub catetory: for Mamaw (3 variations allowed)
subsub category: for Mimi (3 variations allowed)
           subsub category: For Mom..... etc.
           and so forth.

There is a great thread where Mindy explained this, but I can't find it.  See Maximum Image Reuse of 3x in GCU Wiki : http://wiki.greetingcarduniverse.com/index.php/Getting_Started#Some_Basic_Rules

Hope that helps,
Kati

Exactly!  You can have up to 3 of the same or nearly same as long as they are not in the same category...

So where we have broken out a subcategory for different name variations you can put up to 3 in EACH.  Where there is only 1 catch all category you are limited to 3 TOTAL.

See here:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1243889143

Specifically #5 Wording Variations:
5. Wording Variations meaning essentially the same thing using the same image/art will be limited to 3 times when in the same category.  For example: Friend, Buddy, Pal, My Bud, Ole' Partner, BFF, Best Friend, etc.  Only 3 of these would be allowed as they would all go into the same subcategory >> For Friend.  HOWEVER if subcategories exist for any of these specific terms it is an exception to the rule.  For example: If there are subcategories for >> For Best Friend and >> For Friend then "BFF" and "Best Friend" are allowed in >> For Best Friend AND 3 others can go into >> For Friend.

Another similar example: Mom, Mommy, Mother, Mama, Mum, Mummy.  Only 3 of these would be allowed as they would all go into the same subcategory >> From Mom / Mother.  HOWEVER if subcategories exist for any of these specific terms it is an exception to the rule.  For example: If there are subcategories >> For Mum and >> For Mom / Mother then "Mum" and "Mummy" are allowed in >> For Mum AND 3 others can go into >> For Mom / Mother.

And YES, please feel free to reply to the card review emails and ask for clarification or reconsideration.  It is the best way to communicate with the review team and will help us clear up issues of inconsistency.

Hope that helps!

I suppose I should have put some that weren't exactly the name of the category in those...

example, I personally don't know any grandmas that us MaMaw, but I do know a MeMaw.  Same with MiMi...my friend is MiMa.  So, I should have put the MeMaw in the MaMaw category and the MiMa in the MiMi category?  This is so confusing..lol.

Actually I had thought the variations were more like having the premade personal name cards (for which I have seen hundreds of the same image with different names)...after all to the grandkids my name really is Grandma...or as they say it MamMa...

So, I guess I'll drop it and know better next time to put the variations of the variation in those categories.
