Custom Card Request Suggestion
May 3rd, 2010, 6:38am

Hi, I have had some custom card requests where buyers wanted me to place their verse to the inside "left" area of their custom card.  I also had a request from a buyer to place their image on the inside of their custom card.  Both of these requests are not available to us artists to do for the buyer during the customization process.  So my suggestions is, could we some how state more clearly on the "Custom Card Form" which the buyer fills out for the request, some type of wording that will be more clear and avoid these problems.  When I have to explain to the buyers that I am not able to do that portion of the custom card requests, it is leaving a negative feel to the experience.  So my point is, we should try to alleviate this "negative" feel upfront, by explaining in more detail in the form they fill out, what areas of the card the artist is customizing!  For example, perhaps we could state something like...

1.  Custom Card Requests include making changes of text to the "front" of the card, or adding your personal image to the "front" of the card by our artists!
2.  Verse changes to the "inside" left and right areas of the card, or adding your photo to the "inside", can be done by yourself with the "Personalize Inside" step option during your checkout process.
3.  Contact the artist describing your "front of the card changes" using the form below
4.  The artist will perform the work. They may also contact you if necessary
5.  The artist will provide a link to your card in their Private Gallery, when it is ready for review

Option 1 states what the artists can do and option 2 states what the buyer can do.  These are just suggestions and I hope they will be helpful for future requests.

Thank you and have a great day.

I like this idea. Anything that clarifies what is possible to the customer can only be beneficial.

Cheers,

I had a customer ask me that also.
For the time being, I added under the "Artist`s Notes" inside text needs to be added by them...so maybe they will come back when they know how easy it is.
Wonderful Idea Sher!

Thank you Rosanne and Janet for your feedback.  I am confident these little changes will help make for a more positive experience all around for the buyer and artist during custom card requests.  This is such a wonderful site always willing to listen to us and implement changes.

GOOD Thread.

I have lost a few custom orders since I was not able to access the customer spaces as they had required.  What they usually want is their business card or company logo placed on the inside left pane, along with text.  One customer told me later they signed with the "Send out Cards" people since GCU could not give them the customization they desired.

One suggestion is that if we click the "Make available in Private Galley Only" box that it allows us to add text or images to the "left" inside and allows us to sign the card for them.  Some customers just want us to do it all - especially businesses.

This would still allow them to personilize it/edit it prior to placing the order if needed.

I'd like to add my vote to this topic. I agree that fuller explanation is required, as outlined by Sher, and also think that Tom's suggestion is an excellent one; either that or, if it's too complicated right now to put in place as an individual possibility, then some sort of "central"(i.e. "head office" implements the required insertions) method of accomplishing the same thing. Just as our cards themselves are intended to cover and apply to every contingency, so should our service, I feel. Not everyone is equipped nor wants to have to deal with "designing" the inside of a card, as Tom is saying, and I concur that GCU should be a "full service station" if/when needed.

In my own experience recently was a case of an added inner text not ending up in the exact right place because I couldn't control it and the customer couldn't deal with it, preferring to leave it to my limited options.

At this very moment, I await intervention in an order of photo cards with no photo attached! - but that's a different problem and a different thread...

I totally agree with Tom...if a card is "waved" and put in "Private Gallery", it would be swell to be able to add to the left side.
