Is the Search All Cards working correctly today?
Apr 15th, 2010, 6:34am

Hello,

I am a new artist on GCU and I want to say thank you to everyone here at GCU for a wonderful site.  It is a lot of fun!

I have a question about the search all cards bar... when I typed in "rose" it only came up with the following:

Rose Greeting Cards
     Category Search Results
           Birthday (90,955)
                Birth Month Flower Specific (110)
                      June/Rose (12)

I was looking for my Mother's Day card (keyword rose) that was posted though and could only find Birthday cards when I typed in the word, rose, into your Search All Cards function.  Could you possibly check to see if the search bar is working correctly?  Maybe it is just me, I don't know.  I am sorry if I am incorrect, but I thought that it is important that the search is working correctly, so I posted this.  Thank you ever so much!

Jane,
No, it isn't just you, the keywords can be funky...I think an administrator will respond to you directly, but in the mean time, I'll offer what I  can...
I have experienced that even if a keyword has a "real" word, it can show up.  Also, if someone is searching for horse designs mine might show up as flyinghorsedesign is the name of my shop and as you can see horse is there...so my advice?
keep pluggging away ass a designer, keep doing what you are doing, from experience I say that the more quality cards one has to offer the better.
Hope this helps your question...
Linda

Hi Jane,

Just wanted to add that I looked at your cards, lovely BTW, and it can take a while for new cards to be found in keyword searches, so that might be why the search isn't picking up your cards yet.

Oh, I just went in and searched for rose, clicked on Newest and found one of your new rose cards on page 2 of newest.  So they are there Smiley

Thank you Linda and Doreen for your replies!  I appreciate it!

I am still not showing it though on my pc.  From the homepage, I type in the Search All Cards "rose" and it still is just coming up with Birthday cards only... hmm?  I wonder how Doreen sees it and I am not?  I wonder if it is GCU related or if I need to reboot my pc.  I will try to reboot, and clear my cookies (which I clear my cookies almost too much on a usual daily basis) and see if this clears it up.  I will let you know if the Search All Cards bar is working then with another post, but if I don't post it, then just figure that I am still having the problem/trouble.

Thank you again!

Now, I see it on page 2!  I guess what was confusing for me was that it shows on the left side of the screen that it is in Categories/Birthday/Flower Specific Rose and my card is a Mother's Day card.  Anyway, I am glad that it is showing!  Sorry if this was confusing for anyone reading and thank you for your patience.

Best to you all and God bless!

Hi Jane, Welcome to GCU!

Let see if I can shed some light on this "rose" topic.

1) in general new cards can take up to 24 hours to be reflected in search results so you will likely see some delays with newly approved cards and searches.

2) when entering the search term "rose" you'll notice a few things:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/cb.asp?cid=189&keyword=rose

a) in the right hand area this has resulted in 24,739 cards on 774 pages

b) in the left hand area you'll see Sort by: Most Popular and Newest.  Most Popular is the default and will show cards in order of popularity which is heavily influenced by things like age, sales, clicks, etc.  You can choose to view pages by Newest.

c) in the left side bar titled Category Search Results this highlights category names that meet your search criteria.  In this case there is only 1 category that has "Rose" in it, Birthday >> Month / Flower >> June Rose.  This does not mean that all of the cards displayed on the page are in this category.

d) all of the resulting card thumbnail images are cards that have something to do with "Rose".  If you look at them closer you'll see they are for all different occasions.  As you'd unlikely want to click through 774 pages of cards to find a Mother's Day card featuring a rose most people would then narrow their search terms for:  Mother's Day Rose which results in this (1,741 cards, we're getting closer):

http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/cb.asp?cid=189&keyword=mothers+ day+rose

And good to note that you can always find a specific card by entering the pid# in the search box, for example #605342:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/cb.asp?cid=189&keyword=605342

Hope this helps, please let us know if you have any other questions.

Mindy,

This did help... Thank you for your nice explanation and your patience with me.  I am a bit embarrassed by my own question now, but at the time, I just couldn't figure it out.   Huh  I am very thankful for your good work Mindy, even as a new kid (haha) on the block, I can see your attention to GCU and the artists.

Have a great Friday and an even more relaxing weekend Mindy and everyone at Greeting Card Universe!
