Questions about GCU
Apr 14th, 2010, 2:24pm

I posted this in the artist area. I may have put it in the wrong area. Here are my questions: Does anyone know what printing method GCU uses to print the cards: Flexographic, offset, digital? I just ordered some of my designs to see the quality. I hope they don't print to dark! Do they enlarge the designs for the Bleed off the edge's? Do they alter the image for their printing method to ensure the cards are not to dark or light? And, does anyone think they will every let us design the inside of the cards? Just some random questions! Thanks for any help!

What are the quality of your cards?
We've been in business since 2000 and your satisfaction is a priority one for us.
Our cards are professional grade, similar to the cards you purchase at your local greeting card store
Our cards are printed on 100lb. cover stock and our envelope stock is 80lb., classic crest
We offer 100% money back guarantee*
Feel free to call 877-347-6784 with any questions

I got the above info from the "Shoper's FAQ" there is a link for it at the very bottom of each page.
My personal experience that the quality is excellent.  The cards are museum quality.

Hi John and welcome to GCU,
Your images are great and colorful!   Wink
I saw your post a few days ago.  I did not respond because I don't know enough about the process.  I was sure someone from GCU would answer you (Shawn or Mindy).  Perhaps they just haven't had the opportunity yet.  The only thing that I can tell you is that you will loose 1/4 inch on all four sides of your image for the bleed.  Judging from my experience with the color, your cards should be fine for the most part.  If you have a problem with any being too dark, it might be the couple of Santa images you have in the first row of cards.  Our card quality is simply superb.  Wish I could be more technical for you.   Roll Eyes
Sorry.

Hi John,
Welcome to GCU!

1. The printing method is digital.

2. Roughly 1/10" is trimmed off of the 3 corners of the card, and roughly 1/10" is carried over to the back of the card so that the image on the front of the card remains centered.  We actually recommend keeping content 1/4" away from the edges to ensure that nothing prints awkwardly against the side of edge of the card.

3. Images are not altered on a card by card basis, as the cards are printed in batches.

4. At some point in the future we may add the ability for artists to include images on the inside of the cards but we don't have an ETA, nor do we know for certain if we will in fact add this functionality.  Allowing images on the inside of the card may complicate the customization process for customers.

I received the cards that I ordered of some of my designs and they look GREAT!!! I love the way the colors printed and the very sturdy card stock!! I will have to lighten up a couple that are just a little too dark and I will have to reduce the size of a couple that cropped in a little to close to the borders but I was very impressed GCU!!  Thanks GCU!!
