Card Title Spring Cleaning
Apr 2nd, 2010, 5:44pm

We have had several interesting discussions lately re: what makes a good & effective Card Title.

Card titles have always been important to help describe your card at a glance but are also now more important to provide valuable data to search engines.  Having an effective card title will help searching shoppers find your card, even more so than keywords.

Consider doing some Spring cleaning with a keen eye on your card titles.  Particularly older cards that were approved with a more forgiving eye.

In addition to the tips in the Importance of a Good Card Title thread above here are some quick tips to keep in mind:

Card Titles should be:
a) not too long as they do get truncated
b) relevant & descriptive
c) unique
d) differentiating descriptor up front (Mom Birthday Confetti, Dad Birthday Confetti, Spanish Birthday)
e) include occasion
f) NO NEED to include "Paper Greeting Card" or "Greeting Card", GCU provides this data for all cards
g) of the minimum the occasion and subject matter should be included:
(butterfly birthday, Weeping Willow Thank You, Puppy Dog Get Well, Grunge Graduation, etc.)

Think about how someone looking for your card may search for it on Google:
"happy 10th birthday for twins monkeys"
"happy mother's day step mom daisies"
"be my flower girl niece pink rose"
"French Bulldog Thinking of You"
"Loss of Aunt Red Rose Sympathy"
"Born in 1967 Birthday Fun Facts"

Please let us know if you have questions and happy cleaning!

Great idea!  I'm on it!

and...

May I suggest to all artists that while you have that window open, please review your keywords.  I have seen so many cards come up in searches that have absolutely nothing to do with the search criteria.  Mostly it seems to be forgetting to change keywords from the previous made card, or a copy and paste situation.  Not only is this potentially frustrating to the customer, but it may be preventing cards by other artists from moving up on the page...not to mention if you don't have the correct keywords, your card might not show up when searched for.

Okay...now off to do my Card Spring Cleaning!

Are we talking about card titles or keywords..? Seems that the title is actually supposed to be a summary of the most relevant keywords.

Hi everyone!

Since we are spring cleaning, don't forget to delete the cards that have 2009 on them. I've noticed a few when searching.

Just wanted to say that we have some great artists in GCU. I feel very privileged to be associated with you all.

Yes!  Thank you Gail.  There are many cards with 2009 on them, particularly Graduation, some Christmas and New Years, that should be updated.

Yes card titles should be a summary of the most relevant keywords in a way that is to the point, meaningful and logical.

I do my best not to date cards by the year Smiley. Those that have cards by the year can clean their card shops for weeks if they got 1000's of cards in their shops.  Wink kiss
