Am I not putting in enough key words to my wedding card submissions.  I never thought to add those words.  Now I am curious.

Hi Lj,

I'm not entirely sure if I'm understanding your question correctly, but I'll give it a shot.  If you are inquiring as to whether you can or should put phrases that suit your card in your keywords, the answer is yes.

If I didn't help you, perhaps you could re-phrase your question.

Hi Doreen..  I know to add phrases that match my intent.. However..   never thought to add to my "Be in my Wedding" (listed in the Wedding attendants-Bridal category any keywords like.. Husband, 30th anniversary, etc. onto them since this makes no connection to the exact category.  Plus..  I notice the cards in ? that show up in multiple pages of... do not have any keywords listed that match the wedding attendant-bridal party category either so I am wondering why so many of them show up there when I search the keywords> "Be in my wedding"

Makes me think I am not utilizing all my options.  My search was "Be in my wedding"  The results page I keep getting is the following >  http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/shopping/cb.asp?keyword=be+in+my+wedding& ;button.x=107&button.y=17

Ah...

NO, we are not supposed to add any keywords or phrases which do not apply to our card.  I too have found many times keywords that bring cards into a category that has no relevance and it's annoying to me and most probably the customers.  Usually either the artist did several cards and forgot to change keywords on some of the older cards so the reviewers didn't catch it, or perhaps the name of the artist or their store is part of the search criteria.

For example I was looking for horse cards and typed in horses to search, I was really irritated at all the cards that had nothing to do with horses, then I realized it was because the store name of one of the artists has horse in it...then I just had to have a good laugh  Grin

If you see something you consider abuse you certainly can send a personal email to Mindy.  Most of the time its just an error on someone's part.

Thanks all.

The thing is..   My search was off the home page shopping location and as you can see from the link I provided it does not end with either "new or popular"  (see below)

Just seems odd to search for exact titles in exact category's only to find many pages of non relevant items.   I did eventually see mine (titled and tagged correctly) buried in there a few pages back and it was a newly accepted submission.

I do not think it is abuse though since the non relevant cards there do not have any key words in them that seem wrong to me..  They are just there for some reason.. Hahahaha..

I was thinking I was tagging not so good but now I do not think that's it..  Just find it confusing.  If I add any words or category's that are not correct I get rejected.  I assume everyone does.. So when I see this I have a hard time understanding how cards end up on pages they should not be.  So.. thought I would ask the experts here..

I still do not get it.. but then again.  I am fairly new here and hope to figure things out better as I go..

Thanks everyone.   Smiley

Just a funny addition..

I just got rejected on several cards for having a floral card that says  "Get well soon" on the front of it NOT for having it in the wrong category but because I did not add the "Get well card" to the "Flowers & garden" category also.   Hahahaha..  I never thought to put a get well card into that area also over and above the get well-feel better soon area..

See what I mean..  I just do not always get it.. That's why I think I am missing some of what I should be doing here.   I fear rejection for adding to many keywords or adding it to a category I think it really does not belong..    Yes.. there was a flower on it but still..  But I would not have thought to search the "Flower and Garden" section vs: the "Get well-Feel better soon" category for a "Get well card"..

Gosh I hope I get this soon here..

Understandable frustration!  The issue involves a couple of things.

1.  Card metadata - Metadata includes virtually all of the text that is included with your card.  It includes:
A. Common metadata - your store name, artist name, and image by name.  These goes with all your cards.
B. Organizational metadata - the card categories selected when you made the card
C. Descriptive metadata - the card title, card keywords, and the inside verse text

2. GCU site search - GCU site search lumps all of the metadata together with no structure for things like phrases.   This is why so many unrelated cards seem to appear, such as in the Horses example.  We've encouraged GCU to provide a search that is like the ADVANCED SEARCH in the forum so that shoppers aren't presented with so many cards that don't apply to their needs.  They are working on this!

The GCU search also ignores many common words like "a, the, and, and plurals" .... I have a list of these somewhere.  This makes onsite searches using phrases even more of a mess currently!

3.  Outside search engines - Yahoo and Google not only see all of the card metadata as mentioned above, but they also see phrases (one or more adjacent words).  They place relevance on phrases, especially in titles, and thus that is why GCU encourages us create card titles that match what we'd expect an internet shopper to type in.  Having a card with "Happy Birthday Grandmother" as the title, in the verse, and as a set of adjacent words in the keyword field, will boost the cards ranking with outside search engines vs. cards with only this phrase in the verse.

So the point is, we need to consider both search types, but as Doreen mentioned, the keywords are checked by the reviewers and they do need to match the card.  You can't have "Grandmother" as one of your keywords unless the card somehow involves an obvious Grandmother.

I'll try to collect up a bunch of aspects of keywording and send it to GCU for consideration to place in the WIKI Tips and Tricks section.
