Store Selection
Mar 18th, 2010, 12:53pm

Hi GCU,
I have a question about our own stores.  We can select artist choice, newest or popular for the way we show our cards.  Is there any way to have our store revert back to the selection we made if someone comes to our store and changes the selection?  Someone is changing my store to newest on a regular basis and I have to go in and re-select artist choice all the time.  I would really like to have my store revert back to my selection.  Is this possible?
Thanks.
Kathy

Hey, Kathy,

I just clicked on your store link and it currently is showing your cards in order of 'artist choice.'  When you get a moment, go to the 'global preferences' and see if you've got your new cards set to show up first or last (or something similar to that wording.)  I'm guessing that you've got the new cards set to show up first, so they get displayed before your artist choices.  If you set new cards to show up last, then your artist choice cards will still look the way you've got them now, because the new cards will be in the back of the line.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it is showing as "artist choice" becase I just moved it to artist choice.  Yes, I am familiar with global preferences and I do have my new cards set to show up last.  This has been going on for weeks and I really would like someone from GCU to answer my question.  Changing it on a daily basis is getting old.

I'm sorry, Kathy, I really thought that would be the solution.

Hopefully Shaun or Mindy will have an answer for you.  I didn't mean to butt in.  Just trying to help.

Aha, I see what you're saying, Kathy.  I went to my store, not logged in, and changed the setting to 'most popular.'   I then logged out, and came back to the store, and the setting is still 'most popular,' not 'artist choice.'  Interesting.  (I've got my new cards set as first.)

I didn't think to refresh the page.  Maybe that would make a difference?

Unless something has changed, Artist choice is the default shoppers will see, however, if they change it to Newest (or Most popular) for themselves and leave the store, they will see that Sort in all the subsequent stores they visit too unless they change it back to one of the other sorts.  The Sort follows the shopper.  If a second shopper comes into your store, and they haven't been anywhere else, they will see the default sort - Artist choice.  We don't need to worry about it.

What I don't know is how long this "shopper preference" is carried along with them.  Perhaps forever.

Also, think about it this way.  In reality there could be many people in your store at the same time.  It would be nutzo to see the sort jumping all over the place caused by other shoppers, right?  GCU has it set up so each visitor has their own sort and can be anywhere in your store even while others are in there having a good time.

Tom,
I wish what you were saying was true for my store, but what is happening to my store is this.
I have selected to display Artist Choice.  When a shopper comes in and changes the sort to Newest, the sort in my store stays the same (Newest) until I come along and change it back to Artist Choice.  I know this because someone has been changing my sort to Newest day after day after day (just started a few weeks ago) and I have been dutifully changing it back to Artist Choice until they come back again and on and on....talk about getting a little old...
I know it is just a little issue in the big GCU world, but it is important to me that shoppers see my artist choice cards first.
I hope this makes some sense.
Maybe my store is the only one this is happening in I don't know.
Not a huge deal, but a little wish I would have is that my Artist Choice would stay Artist Choice.
Thanks
Kathy

Wow, how frustrating Kathy.

Here's a thought that might deter this person?  What if you put those cards you wish to show in your Featured Card section and move that above your products?  Maybe this person would come back and not figure out the change.

Just a thought until you can find a solution.

Doreen,
That is an interesting idea!  I have never used the featured card function, but have always moved the cards around and then used artist choice, but at least with the featured card function I could get a few of the cards I want to be seen to always be seen.  I will give it a couple of days in the hopes it will stop, but if it does not I think your suggestion is a good one.  Thanks so much.

Tom is correct, when a shopper changes the sort view, the change is only applied for that particular shopper, if they leave your store and go to another store, we apply their sort selection to this store as well.

Any other shoppers that visit your store will see your cards sorted by "Artist Choice".

If you visit your store and change your sort to "Newest", then clear out all cookies and close your browser, then reopen your browser and visit your store, the sort should revert to "Artist Choice".

Thanks Shaun... This makes sense now.  Tom, should have known that what you were saying was correct as you always seem to know what goes on in the background.  Thanks for all the help guys.  It is really appreciated.

Just wanted to add a note of clarification that might help others at some point.  When I would look at my store, I always expected it to display in the order of Artists Choice because that is the choice I have for displaying my cards.  However, many times when I would go to my store it would be in order of Newest.  Since I had never changed my store while visiting my store, I just did not understand why my store was not displaying Artist Choice.  The only thing I could think of is that somehow the last choice a shopper had made in my store was holding over.  I never realized that what I did on the main GCU site would affect my store.  My store was changing to newest because I had changed popular to newest on the main GCU site.   Just thought I would share what was going on with me, just in case others ran into the same thing.
Just never realized what we did on the main site affected our stores.  Now I get this.
