The feature was done by yourself at a guess by accident if you look at your manage cards, where you creat them, there is a Feature yes tickable ..... you can feature, um ohh 12 cards I think, say Valentine's Day is comming up and you want to feature 12 of those, but currently you are creating Christmas.... then your valentine's will not get swamped by your new cards, so people can see at a glance at the bottom there your variety of cards for that you Feature.. I change mine oftern.  
 
Yes it is only featured inside your shop, a glance of your favorite images that sort of thing, handy for shoppers.
 
Looks like this on your manage cards....
Featured:       Yes  No
Card Finish:      Matte  Glossy
Private Card:      Yes  No

It is also best for this reason to put your Featured Cards module up above your Product Gallery module.  You can do this in your admin tools area by dragging and dropping it in the place that you want it.  You can do that under Look & Design >> Store Layout & Content:

To hide any modules just check them off.
