A small grumble!
Mar 16th, 2010, 12:16pm

I just uploaded and had 15 cards approved this morning and I just checked in the "newest" cards area to see that not one of my cards are listed but over a hundred for just one artist are!?.. several pages of the same design just a word change on the card.. (Actually, over half the new designs ;showing are from only 1 or 2 designers) kind of redundant and I think slightly unfair to the other artists that have new cards posted since potential customers will not see ours because of this. Can we not have several pages on the "newest" card section allocated to just one person and spread it out a bit? For that matter on any page that is highlighting cards or designs...

I know, I now seems kind of whiny on my part but is doesn't make sense to show "new" cards that are all the same with just a word or 2 changed and not show many new designs from everybody......

Thanks,
W. Martin

I agree. Seeing the same design repetitively looks like "design spam" & can ruin the chance for customers to see others work. PLUS, it make the GCU site look unrefined, amateurish & junky.

This seems to be a frequent grumble.  As they can't fix it because it's autogenerated, perhaps they should just get rid of it?

I don't think you are 'whiny' at all.... this has been a sore spot with me for a long time and I wish GCU would try to fix this problem.  It is a REAL turn off.  embarrassed   One reason my customers turn to Zazzle when this happens.  Too bad it has existed as long as it has.  Definitely does not put forth a professional and artistic look to the site.  With me it's not a 'small' grumble, it's a BIG grumble! I don't think it is a small grumble at all. I have yet to see one of my newly aprroved cards on the pages of new cards. Could be because I stop looking after I see page after page of the same card with only a word changed, such as a name or date. It gets boring, repeticious and just plain ANNOYING.

I'm betting customers would be the same way, and just stop looking.

Guess I did not know that it is auto generated.. still, I am sure that there is some kind of coding that can be written to make it so that only so many cards per day can be loaded (into the "new" catagory) from each designers store...

Or maybe something in out store so that when we up cards and they are accepted we can pick say 10 of them and have them presented into the "New" section.

With over 3,700 designers on here and only one or two getting presented on the "new" cards catagory just because they have 100 cards (not really new designs) does not really show support for the rest of the designers??

Don't get me wrong I am certainly not saying anything against the designers and having these cards.. just the fact that it fills up the "new" catagory for the rest of us... if that makes since!?...

This was discussed a few weeks ago:

I don't think anyone likes it, but apparently only we visit it!

...see now that it has been brought up many times... (I have not been in the form for a while so I seem to be a bit behind!).. but I had to have my voice heard on this...

I guess whether of or not it is a high traffic pages as stated on the previous string.. it is somewhat disheartening as a designer to look in this page only to see 1 or 2 designers cards.... and all the same...

Anyhow.. .I'll stop now... thanks for listening Smiley

Yes, it has been discussed several times, and GCU claims it is such a low traffic area, not worth their time to fix, but I say, if it wasn't so boring with the same design, it might not be such a low traffic area, and buyers might browse it more often.

Yes, we've heard many grumbles over this page.  There is not an easy way to filter out near identical image cards.   It basically reflects 1 days worth of newly approved cards.  This is a very lightly traveled page.  It gets literally .5 % of our site visitors, mostly of which are artists.  We do plan to change the logic on this New Cards view but compared to other tasks on the to do list the priority is quite low due to the small usage that the page gets.  We'll see what we can do.

no William, i completely understand.  i had 42 new cards.. 42 unique cards that i had gone through a good bit of time submitting, resubmit, change categories etc all finally approved in the same 24 hour period.  and not one showed up in the new cards.  i got in on the time frame of several rounds of batch cards that were alike.   Sad

Mindy i saw your post as mine showed up.  would there be any consideration at all of just doing away with 24 pages of the new cards and just have one page or widget.  i had suggested this before, that is a lot of wasted "space/bandwidth/real estate"   if hardly anyone is going to it except us hunting our cards.

Well of course it's a lightly travelled page. whoever would want to repeat the experience of being bored to death with almost the same card over and over and over.  Roll Eyes

If it's such a low traffic section and those who do visit are either artists who are complaining or shoppers leaving (and not coming back), why not get rid of it?  Giving shoppers the opportunity to go elsewhere on GCU where they'll have a better experience and come back AND buy.  Huh

The low traffic really has to do with the constant changing of content and data on a 24 hours basis.  Nothing meaty for search engines to sink their teeth into.

Maybe you could turn that section into Stores that had New Cards approved that Day?  Perhaps the system could be requested to pull 1 card from each store that had cards approved that day and if you click on that card you are taken to that store.  Not all of us get cards approved every day, so shoppers would be sent to stores that have been updated and they can then shop around from there.

Just a thought.
