Some basic help please

Could anyone guide me to where on this site I find info on how to post links and the such here? I have read through the gcu 101 and some blogs I found online but have been unable to find this site's general instruction page for such things. I see others doing it here but.... I would greatly appreciate the guidance if anyone will help me here. Thanks!

I'm not sure, but this might have something in it...It was written by one of GCU's artists and is full of great info

In general though all you have to do is two things: You can put HTML code for widgets and such in your Artist Profile area and in the Bulletins.

To add a simple link to a site use the following...

<a href="http://www.domain.com">www.yourdomain.com</a>

Put your URL address in then type in the name of your link to make it look nice

I tried that page and the search engines here too but I could not see anything about how to make links and the such on this site..

I see some stores here have video's too.. I just can not find any guidance on how to create my store this way..

How did you add the one below for me to see?

Copy/paste the odd code I saw in your reply followed (without any spaces in between) with the site I wish to link to.. right?

Almost, but not quite!

Here's the HTML code for links:

<a href="putyourwebsiteURLhere">Name of website</a>

Videos I've never seen posted on the forum. Pictures have to be hosted elsewhere like Flickr or Photo Bucket or other photo sharing site. You can get the HTML for linking to that photo from the sharing site itself.

The link you tried is not correct like that and would only work here in the forum.

To give you an idea of how links work, here some samples:
This would be your shop:
<a href="http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/ljmaxx">Lj Maxx's Cards</a>
This is mine:
<a href="http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/>aura2000">aura2000</a>
And this is that site on squidoo:
<a href="http://www.squidoo.com/GCU101">GCU101 on Squidoo.com</a>

All these are text links. If you want to EMBED a video, you need to insert a code like
<embed src="URL of your file"/>
and (of course) replace everything between the quotation marks with the correct internet address of the file.

Let me see if I got this right then...

I put... <a href=" then my stores URL addy then.... "> then... the URL addy of the page I am want others to link to ?

or is it...

<a href=" then.... GCU's home page url then.. "> my stores URL

I will go to your tutorials Corrie and read them all this weekend.. I am fairly fluent on my other websites but the linking codes seem to be a little diff on all of them.. I am anxious to improve my store and it's exp. for the viewer so am trying hard to learn more here.

I am a newbie to the link stuff too, but here is what I learned. Try it, then look at the web page and see if it worked. If it didn't, then try it the other way. I was afraid, until I started to just try the html that seemed right. You mentioned two options here, so, try one, then the other and see which one works.

You don't need 2 URLs. You put the URL you want to link to between the quotes.

After the end > and before the </a> you put whatever text you want to show up as a clickable hypertext link. Check Monica's answer - she's shown you a couple of good examples.

In the Forum, I don't think HTML code links work the way they would on a website. But the Forum automatically turns any URL you type(without HTML code) into a clickable hypertext link, so you don't have to use HTML code to create a link in Forum postings, just type out the full URL.

I still do not really understand exactly but will keep looking-trying-reading blogs about it etc.. I was hopeful the GCU site itself would have some basic 101's on this topic right here but I can not find any.. I Appreciate your help though very much. I should eventually get it... I have on other sites.

Hi everyone....I'm just new in this site and I want to learn more on how can i improve my designs. I actually submitted 2 of my works but it is still on pending submitted status...How many days does it takes to be approved? I was so excited trying to view the status but i always ended up disappointed cause it never change...is there any way i will learn how to post it properly cause i might have done wrong on uploading my work...hope to hear from you guys...thanks

Hi Elizabeth,

Welcome to GCU, it can sometimes take more than a week to get your cards approved. I know that I can be hard waiting for our cards to go into our store when we first start; all I can say is to keep adding cards regularly and you will soon be having new cards in your store every week. Wink

If you are making cards for holidays, do them months in advanced, I would think that it is a bit late for father’s day cards let alone mother’s day cards. Roll Eyes
