Categories - First Impressions

I was wondering if it might not be more user friendly and fair to artists if the category pages with the blue headings came up first when a category was selected instead of the pages with all cards and the most popular cards first.

For example: Easter

Currently, if Easter is clicked from the drop down list under holidays (or from anywhere else on the site), 9,000 plus cards come up with most popular first.  I can either go down the list at the left to be more selective or click at the top "see all 53 subcategories within the Easter category" (which is pretty small text, I did not find this option until I  had been on the site many months).

If instead, the category pages with the blue title buttons (and one sample card under each) always came up first, along with the side card categories list. It is much more attractive and not so overwhelming.  I don't have to click "see all 53 subcategories..."  (that step click could be completely eliminated).  I would have the choices of the side card categories list or blue button list to narrow my selection.

The same could be applied to the subcategories.
The option could still be given to "browse all"  but the all cards pages would not be the first pages to come up under any main- or sub- category.

If you open two browser windows and compare
 All cards>Holidays>Easter>For Family Relation Specific,
I think you can see what I am referring to.

Pluses would be:
 1. Much more attractive, clean presentation of all the many sub-categories offered on GCU. First impressions count!
 2. More customer and artist friendly
 3. Elimination of one click step
 4. More visibility of all cards (I like the way the sample card under each blue button is rotated through available cards in the specific sub-category.

Now, what are the minuses?  What do you think?

We actually did that...the pages with the blue lines were our new category pages.  It caused quite an uproar with the artists and we also saw site traffic & shopper browsing drop.   embarrassed  So ... we went back to the old with a bit of a hybrid (offering the link to see the summary of subcats).

Here is some of the discussion.
