Card Request?
Mar 5th, 2010, 1:39pm

Huh Not sure where I am supposed to ask this....and I know It's MY problem, but never thought I would encounter it Roll Eyes

Someone requested one of my sympathy cards in "Italian"!   I only write and speak english Roll Eyes
What do others do when this happens?   Is there a trustworthy  translation page anyone uses?  Or am I supposed to tell this person It's not available in Italian?  I would hate to do that!   What do others do when cards are requested in a foreign language?   Sorry!  I have just never had a request like that yet!

Hope someone can help me out here Smiley
Thanks In Advance,
Cindy

Hi Cindy...

Here is a link if you want to write more than just Deepest Sympathy/So On..
http://www.freetranslation.com/

Most of the Categories have Non-English/Other Language Sections now.

So, I also go check what others are writing on their cards in those languages to double check.

Here is a link for GCU`s Sympathy Cards in Non-English/Other Languages ..

http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/Occasions-Sympathy-Non-English+Other+Languag es-Italian?cid=1974&ref=cb_wide_left_side_cat

Hope that helps...Congrats on your request!
Hugs, Janet Lee Smiley

since they have contacted you first... i would ask them to please send you a phrase, or particular words they want on the card.   if they want the same verse or message you already have, politely explain that you do not speak the Italian language and do not want to say something in a wrong way and ask if they would please translate it for you.   i think they will appreciate the fact that you want it to send the right message, especially on a sympathy card.

janet is right there are online translators, but in my experience, putting the same phrase in several different ones, i don't always get the same translation.  i am not sure that i trust them that much.

Yes Denise is right about contacting them first in this case...and also when working with a different language, its something that you want to double or even triple check..
