Hey gang, I’ve been here 2 years and all I have to say is that you guys deserve an award for putting up with me this long!
Because of the anniversary, I put together a few more charts this time. I put these monthly reports out to show my fellow artists the growth that is happening and that if you stick with it and make competitive cards then you likely will be on the same curve and see similar results over time. It might not feel like all the work is worthwhile, but the greatest gardens all start out as tiny seeds.
As mentioned before, I am nowhere near the “biggest seller,” but I do see good growth much of which comes from growth occurring organically at GCU. They work every day to increase overall sales by doing a variety of things like improving the site, expanding to Facebook, and trying various promotions. GCU as a business is still very tiny but I do believe it will remarkable where it will be in 10 years time.
As for charts, I had these done before I went to bed last night as sales have been a bit slow. I only sold 4 cards yesterday and didn’t expect any more overnight. As usual, I was wrong, and woke up to see a total of 86 sold on Sunday. Yikes! Someone bough 55 Passover Cards (from me??!) and another shopper bought 20 Divorce is Final cards (plus a few others). Of course I happily redid the charts for you!
Chart 1 - simply shows the sales each month. February beat January which was my best prior month and double that of a year ago. I sold 441 cards last month at an average commission of 51-cents. This was the first month in a long time that I at least sold 1 card each day.
Chart 2 – simply shows the sum of all cards sold to date (4551). You can see the growth rate is not “lumpy” – it’s amazingly very smooth! I use this trend to project out to the future in the next 2 charts.
Chart 3 – shows total cards sold to date (4551) and how this trend projects out for 2010. If this rate continues I will double total cards sold (to ~9000) around October 2010. So 2 years worth of sales doubling in just 8 more months. (Dreamer!)
Chart 4 – shows sales data projected out for 10 more years and the level of income that will result at 50 cents/card. This is the full “perennial garden chart” – where all the seeds are producing, year after year. This is also when GCU will blossom as well – that’s the big picture plan folks! It may not pay much now relative to the work we are all putting in, but the trend is clear, steady, and likely to play out. What other job has an income curve like this? - and it keeps going!
As for GCU, their sales were off 10 percent from January but up 40% from a very strong Feb 2009. Cards added per day is now 585, up from 407/d in January.
So how were your February sales?
