Thou shall not make humorous religious cards
Feb 24th, 2010, 12:49am

DECLINED
DECLINED
DECLINED

I've had a number of cards declined lately for use in religious subcategories.

If only serious cards are allowed in the religious subcategories then it needs to be made a specific rule.  It's closeminded to think religious-category shoppers aren't tickled by nonoffensive religious humor cards like below.  GCU is missing out on a lot of sales imo!

Although this card was approved for Easter>>humor category, I believe the Easter>>Religious shopper is far more likely to buy it.

That is one seriously funny card, Tom! I agree that some of the subcategory rejections can be real head scratchers.

If this has been declined then it is political, or should I say religious, correctness gone mad.

Hehehe, I like it Tom!
Maybe there should be an Easter > Humor : Category, and then people will know if they dont have a sense of humor about Easter..they wont go in there.
Sorry it was Declined.. undecided

Tom, I think it's silly and very funny. If you can't laugh at yourself and your surroundings well, you've got problems. I also think everything can be put into a humorous situation. It's all good!
Funny, Tom

OK I am probably going to have to duck rotten eggs for this one Cheesy but I think I do see the point in this rejection Tom.

I don't think your card is offensive, it is funny, but I also don't think it belongs shoulder to shoulder with cards that are conveying the message of Easter in a true religious sense. I think that any shopper who clicks on the religious category is looking for and expecting to find something that conveys their message of Easter in a more serious and heartfelt way. Christians do have a sense of humor but I don't think they would expect to find humor in that particular category and many would probably find that offensive and not buy anything from GCU or any of your Comical Captions line also.

So whilst it does limit the exposure of your cards I do think GCU is right on this one in keeping religious categories 'pure' so to speak Wink. kiss

OK getting ready to duck eggs and everything else now Grin

Part of the misunderstanding I think lies in the fact that Easter is already religious in and of itself.
It is not a bunny wunny basket holiday.  It is in fact a religious holiday, so making a funny Easter card does belong in humor...that and the bent of your card is more towards humor than it being a prayer like homage to Jesus Christ.  I didn't see Him lurking around anywhere.  Smiley

I do love your cards, Tom, and I often feel over directed and nit picked, but I do it their way, cuz in the end I want everyone to have the same rules.

WOW......... I never thought I'd see a "Tom" card declined!
I'm a bit baffled by the whole category thing....... But maybe there is a "Religious Department"... they get all the religious cards for reviewing.......... and no sense of humor belongs their??? Shocked
that is a great card!

Greetings!

I love the card, Tom!  Smiley

I think that Pamela has a point regarding the serious nature of the religious card category, and Bright as well with the fact that Easter is a religious holiday.  So Pamela and I can duck the (dyed) eggs together!  Smiley

But, what about GCU creating a NEW subcategory under Easter, either Religious --> Humor  OR Humor --> Religious?

I hope that this gets settled for you soon, Tom!

Good luck!

LOVE the card Tom. I agree with everyone. In my family, we always gave humorous cards at just about any occasion. If I saw this particular card . . I would probably purchase it, just to be "one up" on another member of my family for "humorous".

On the other hand . . Easter is a seriously religious holiday and Christ did die and rose three days later. That's what most people want to remember at Easter. But, I too have "cutsie" Easter cards out there as well as religious.

I agree...we do need a couple more categories . . Easter/Humorous/Funny . . something like that...AND Humorous/Easter.........

I don't think adding a humor category under religious is necessarily a good idea.  That would then argue to have this style (and all other styles) broken out underneath this subcategory and most other subcategories.

If there are subcategories where humor cards are in essence "banned" then these need to be clearly identified so we don't waste anyone's time.

I guess I'm a little lost here.  The card is really funny (great job again Tom) and not at all offensive, but Tom why didn't you just put it in the Easter Humor Category?

Had I created this card, I would never have even thought to put it in religious category, I would have gone straight for humor...There isn't anything religious about it.  I am not seriously religious, though I was raised that way.  My experience is that religious people do have a sense of humor, and humorous people are religious, I think you just put your humor in the wrong category.

The Easter Humor category looks like it could use some populating and this card would be a great fit.

Just my opinion.

Doreen -  I put a version of it in humor too as stated in the first post, but it likely is the only "church" based humor card there.

I just felt a church-goer would more likely see it in the religious category and since it didn't violate any rules, and it wasn't offensive, and it was church oriented - it should be OK, and likely would be very popular.  How stupid of me to place it where it most likely would be purchased.
