Declined cards
Feb 23rd, 2010, 11:49pm

I recently had a whole series of cards declined for having a caption on the front that was not judged to be dfferent enough from the caption on a similar series.  I did this to give the shopper a choice as the first caption may have been too edgy for some.  This likely would result in more sales for GCU!

I would like to be able to modify the cards and resubmit rather than having to recreate them from scratch.

My suggestion is to allow artists to resubmit declined cards or simply eliminate that option and just return such cards as edit/resubmit with the applicable reason given.

I have to go cool off now!!  Angry

I might agree with you here, Tom, if I could see the two cards. I am not happy with a flat decline, even though I think I have figured out why most of mine were, I really don't know all the time and would be willing to make the corrections.

Tom,
I didn't realize with a decline that it was final, finito, over Huh So far thankfully I haven't had that.
I can't believe the artist cannot change/tweak and resubmit, Shocked that's a ton of work to go through the whole process again, and again with no idea as to whether they will be accepted.
Of course there may be cards that are just not acceptable in any way because of content, I can understand that angle, but for the reason yours were returned something seems wrong. Huh

How frustrating!

I try to make 1 template of my cards and keep it for further tweaking. So, for instance, if I have several designs with the same photo and use different captions on the front . . I will save ONE of them as a template and then go back if needed for additional design ideas or text modifications. It's worked for me so far.

We Decline very few cards and if we do there is ALWAYS a reason stated in the Please Notes section.  If artists have questions or disputes they can simply reply to the card review team via the card review email.

It is true that a Declined card can not be tweaked by the artist but the reviewers can change the status of any card so your work certainly is not wasted.

Looking at the card review history Tom it appears that you were provided with very clear reasons as to your cards Decline but also suggestions on edits to make and a request to reply to the email and let the reviewer know what your questions/plans were.

Notes:
The 3 cards for each Old B***h, Last Chance and Final say cards are so similar they are considered near identical and only 3 can be used.  The wording difference on the front is so subtle and does not significantly differentiate it from the other.  We are returning all 9 of these to you. Please choose which 3 you think are your best version of this card and resubmit.  Please also take into consideration our prior note re: profanity and the fact that those cards will be relegated to Adult / Sexy subcategory only.  Thank you for your understanding and please reply to any of these emails if you have questions.

Notes:
This Last Chance age specific birthday collection is considered near identical to the Old B***h series as the change/text difference is so subtle in the design and message and they reside in the same category.  Please choose one of these versions that you'd like to submit.  The same goes for "Final Say" version, again nothing significant enough in the design to make it considered a different image.   Thank you for your understanding.

Notes:
With the use of "b***h" this collection of cards is considered Adult content (profanity) and would need to be moved to Birthday >> Adult / Sexy >> Age Specific categories.  You can make this category change however we personally feel the use of profanity in this context (elderly women) may be somewhat offensive.  Perhaps consider wording that may be less offensive to shoppers and would allow these cards to remain in the primary Birthday category vs relegated and hidden in the Adult subcategory.  For example: "Old Hag", "Old Fart", "Spinster", etc.  Just a suggestion that may make your collection more palatable to general consumers for what it is worth.  Please reply to this email and update us on what action you will be taking.  Thank you for your consideration!  Lastly, and this could just be my bad eyes the age number on the front of your card image is barely visible - perhaps consider making it in a more standout color so it is not overlooked.

Similar to your Easter series of similar image cards your 3 collections of age specific cards were deemed near identical as well with some Returned for Edits and some Declined for overuse.

Please let me know if you have other questions/concerns and if you don't feel the reviewer's notes were helpful.  Sorry we got you all worked up  Sad

In working with the reviewers a series of these declined cards have now been approved.

Thank you.
