Card Click/Sale Info
Jan 1st, 2010, 9:49am

Hi all -

I have been on GCU since the summer and have just started making some decent-sized sales.  I was hoping that some of you fellow artists out there could point me in the right direction for information I would like to have as I am making and hopefully selling my cards.

1.  I look at my store report daily, but it seems that the only way to figure out which cards were clicked on is by looking at each individual card on the manage cards page and comparing it to previous number of clicks, which I do on a spreadsheet.  It is interesting data to see when traffic increases for individual cards and I have made changes accordingly.  Is there any report out there that would give me this data?

2. When I sell a card it says in the email where the card (or hopefully cards  Smiley) was purchases from, but only the state.  If I watch for the card to pop up on the recently sold feed on the GCU page, I can see the city and state where it was shipped.  Is there any place to find this information other than just waiting to hopefully see my card on the feed?  I find it interesting to see where my cards are going!

It seems like there is the possibility of significant statistical information for each artist that could help us to make decisions around what cards are of the most interest to buyers, but I just can't seem to find it.  Can anyone give me some tips?

I don't know the first answer, but the other two I will take a try at for you...

When you get the email notice of a card sale, go down and look where it was sent.

I don't worry about which are the most interesting to customers, although one probably should, as much as I care which were bought.  My reasoning is that there are a lot of reasons why someone looks, but only one reason they buy...and that is that it's appropriate to what they want to say at that point in time.

Just one little ol' view!

Gosh you are making it hard work! When you start selling large volumes this will quickly become impractical.  Keep an eye on the sites best sellers and most popular keywords. They are much more useful. What does it matter where your card was sold?
The number of clicks could be very misleading. They could all be other artists looking for inspiration! Someone on Digg or Stumble could have flagged your card.  A clicker is not necessarily a shopper, and you could be misled into making completely the wrong cards. Let sales be your main guide.

Thanks for the tips.  I know that it doesn't really matter where my cards are sent to, I just find it interesting to see how widely they are distributed Smiley

I come from a business background, so I try to get as much information as I can out of the reports that are available.  I am trying to ramp up my card making and am still getting the feel of when I should be working on different types of cards.  Also, with photography as my main form of art I am working on building my inventory for next year's holidays as they come - i.e. snow pictures this winter for next year's Christmas cards.  I appreciate all of the helpful info that other artists share on these forums.
