New Cards listing
Nov 28th, 2009, 9:34pm

I do find it frustrating when looking at the "New Cards" on the website that some people post the exact same card a hundred times or more, with name after name pulled from a baby book on the front.  As an artist, it means that any new work I post is totally lost in the sea of repetition and less likely to be seen.  As a customer, I find it quite a turnoff to try to browse cards and see the same image over and over.  Since all cards on the site are customizable on the inside, and you can make requests from the artist directly (such as personalizing with a picture, which many artists do routinely), it seems unnecessary to post the same image so many times.  Since each card is reviewed, this is obviously something the site encourages...but I fail to see how this benefits the majority of artists who fill their store with a variety of designs they'd like to be seen.

I totally have to agree here, I see that here and some other sites and find it most annoying! Now i was under the impression GCU had a rule of no more than 3 cards with the same image, evidently it may not be the case at all.
I myself rarely ever duplicate a card, for one it really loses it appeal when dupped 50+ times over. I want ppl to feel each card is very personal to that personal occassion.

This has been discussed many times.  The New Cards page is simply a list of cards as they get approved, so over 500 per day, and the "streams" of similar looking cards get pushed deep rather quickly.  GCU is looking at ways to make this page more useful to shoppers.  It's on "the list."

There is no limit on cards with a different age, name, or relationship on the front.  That is normal, and it is effecient to create them and get them approved in batches.

Yes, it has been discussed many times, but I still find it frustrating that artists are forced to create the same card over and over for different events, occasions, relationships, names, gender and age groups, just because there is no option for buyers to customize the front text, which would save us SO much work (and GCU reviewing time and storing space). I know there are buyers who are not creative at all and want a totally ready-made card, and it's OK if there are artists willing to do just that, but for some reason, I'm selling a lot more cards at zazzle, where the front is customizable, too...

Here, here, Monica.  The barrage of seemingly identical images taking over page after page is boring and off-putting.  If I am shopping on the site for cards that I haven't seen as yet and am faced with paging through the same image page after slow loading page I might just leave.

I did a count morning of 11/29 of the first 15 pages of New Cards (360 card images) there were five images that accounted for 60% of the new cards (image A-94 cards, image B-24 cards, image C-69 cards, image D- 6 cards and image E-23 cards)

I suggest either one image of each image with an asterisk that will take you to a pull down list of different text on the covers of that image where a customer can choose.  That would serve several purposes to:
-free up space on the New Cards pages for different images
-allow other artists a chance to show their work and not be hidden in an explosion of repetitive images

Hello, Jason,and welcome to GCU!

Tom is correct in that this has been discussed many times, here's a link to the most recent conversation, which has some good information:

Jason, I feel your frustration.  It's funny how you can change the text on the front and all of a sudden it's a new card but god forbid you change the image and leave the text the same as they reject those - even though it's a totally different image.  Oh well - I guess that is why I rarely update my stuff - sick of the double standards and what not.

Hi, Angela,

I posted the link below where Mindy discusses the 3x use of card images, perhaps it will help.  I know that it's pretty confusing to understand when and how many times the same image, or the same image with different text can be used; I had trouble with it at first.  Smiley

And if if you get a card returned to you by the reviewers, or a resubmit, you can always reply to the email that they sent you and explain your case.

Good luck!

I think you are missing the point Penny, I had one photo with text and used it three times, then changed the background image and tried to use it another three times and was told that simply changing the color doesn't make the card different enough.  It was a sky picture with blue sky and white clouds and then one with a sunset pink clouds - two totally different images so two totally different designs/cards.  This is where my frustration is.  They seem to change the rules on a whim and expect us all to keep up - and there is MAJOR inconsistency so this also leads to much frustration.  Especially when someone can use a design and change one letter/number or name on a card and it's brand new - clogging the system with much garbage because they are making 1000's of cards when I'm just trying to make 6 and following their rules.

Oh and believe me I've responded to the email and rarely do I get a response.  I can understand playing by the rules but when the rules change all the time and or differing reviewers take on the rules makes it hard to follow.  I'm a little irritated with this process so I rarely contribute which sucks because I love the creative process in making the cards, just can do without all the red tape and such.

This was just discussed maybe 2-3 weeks ago, and someone (Martin?) suggested that the new cards be done by artist, once one artist's card is up, move on to the next artist.  I thought that was a good idea - is it something GCU would consider?  Also, I have only heard negative comments about the new card feature and am curious if any customers actually like it.  Anyone know?
