Ideas On Customizing
Sep 23rd, 2009, 9:03pm

Hi I've Noticed That A Lot Of Stores Aren't Customized So That You Can Get The Most From Your Store. Surely You Must Have Other Sites Also To Cross Promote? See A Fellow Colleague Of Mine That I Knew Before Is On Here Too And I Noticed That She's Done SOME Stuff To Her Site, But Not Much.

Folks, I Want To Let You Know That You Can Customize Your Store And Add Links, Banners Widgets etc To Your Store In The Main Area & The Side Bar. It Helps, Believe Me It Does. I've Only Got 2 Cards Approved & 1 Pending Because I Do Have Other Things I Do Online, But The Cards You Do Have Will Drive People To Your Own Unique Store And Even If They Don't Shop Your Own Store And Buy Your Cards, Utilize To Cross Promote Other Things. My Business Period Has Increased Since I've Been An Artist.

Also, Take Time To Build A Beautiful Store. As A Designer, I Know How Important This Is. I Just Updated My Store A Bit Ago With A Brand New Header That I'm Going To Utilize With My Site TheBestChristmasShop.com And I Took My Time To Build A Beautiful Store Front & I'm Pleased With The Results.

I wonder how GCU will feel about all your referral links!  Now where is that Terms of Service contract, he ponders ...

I've Had It Customized Since I Set Up My Store A Few Months Ago, Surely They've Seen My Store To Approve My Cards. I Haven't Received Any Word To The Contrary Or Seen Any Attempt To Remove It, I Just Thought It Would Be Smart For Me To Utilize It To Work With Everything I Do. I'm Good At Finding Nooks & Cranny's That People Don't Know Can Be Customized.

You Can Customize It In Your Profile. Leave The About Box As Plain Text. Add Stuff To The Interests Area For The Side Bar And Where You Add Text To The Header Is Where You Upload Your Store Logo.

However, Mine Isn't Uploaded - Mine's Hosted On My Domain And Linked To So It Can Be Clickable.

And I Must Make A Mention Also, That If For Some Reason, GCU Were To Contact Me, I Would Change It Without Hesitation But Really, I Don't See A Problem. My Content Is Original And All The Rules They Ask Us To Abide By Are Understandable And Are The Same Rules I Abide By In General In Everything I Do

Tom,

TOS is available when the artist signs up. It is a Pop Up Javascript page and no where does it state about "outside" links. I would copy and paste them here but there are more than 6000 characters so it gets cut off. You can act like you are signing up again for the site as an artist and read them there.

However, a lot of store owners link to other sites that sell their designs on like Zazzle, Cafepress etc. or link to their other websites/blogs. I have a link to my design site which is totally separate from my designs here... my opinion.... if GCU had a problem with it then they would notify her.  Grin

I said referral links.  They are different.  The idea of the free GCU store is to display and sell GCU cards, not be a place to make money on pay-per-click ads or to drum up service work.

Tom, Most Artists Are Here To Make Money From Here And Its Great That We Can Cross Promote Like That,  And Are Smart To Do What I Have Done, And You ARE NOT In A Position To Enforce What YOU, And Only YOU, Think Should Go On Our Private Stores When You Have Content On Your Site That I Am Quite Honestly Suprise Was Approved. Or Are You Just Upset That You Hadn't Thought Of It Before?  This Was My First Post, You And I Have Never Met Or Spoken Until Yesterday And I've Never Done Anything To You, So What Was With The Negative Response? I Came Here To Make Money And I Know For A Fact That I Didn't Deserve That, Nor Do Anything Wrong, Nor Will I Tolerate Such Actions When I Really Was Just Trying To Help Because Helping Others Is What I Love To Do And I Was Doing A Good Thing. Maybe You Should Remember This In The Future When You See Me In The Forums And I Will Be In The Forums And A GCU Artist For As Long As I Can.

Maybe Mindy or Shaun should get involved and let us know their thoughts on this matter.  Tom has a good point that I think need to be looked into.

Shanni,

Tom has helped, and continues to help, so many of the artists here at GCU. He is always offering new ideas, improvements, sharing helpful statistics, or creating a laugh when things are slow. Not only is he kind and encouraging to one and all, but he is very knowledgeable about GCU and so many other aspects related to this venture.

I truly feel you have misunderstood Tom's intentions in his posts and do not feel he deserved such a response. We all assist each other here, sometimes it gets contentious but we work things out in a friendly manner in the end, hoping this will be resolved on a good note also.

I Didn't Deserve The Response I Got Either Being A Newbie Here & I Feel My Intentions Were Misunderstood. Sure I Do See That He Helps And If He's Helped You As Others Have And As I Tried To Do, Then That's Great. But I Tried To Help Everyone With This And Now Feel Like I'm Getting Kicked In The The Teeth Here.  But I Think That Trying To Stop Outside Links Would Hurt Other Artists Who Are Doing The Same Thing. And What The Heck Is The Harm In It? I Saw None, And Looked At The Rules And Its Not In Any Violation Unless Its Not Content Suitable For General Audiences, And All Mine Is Safe Content And So Is Others.  Its Something That Many Others Do In Other Places Online Similar To GCU To Increase Business & Making Money So Why Should GCU Be Any Different? Really Its Not. So Its Up To GCU But It Really Would Be Hurting Other Artists As Well Who Do The Same, So Bring It Up To GCU And See What They Say, But Really What Was The Harm Exept For That Someone Didn't Like It. If You Were To Actually Try It, Maybe It Would Help You. Have You Thought Of It That Way? I Was Just Trying To Help Too Rather Than Hurt Which I Am Not Trying To Do. I Have A Great Point Too. If You Want To Stop This At GCU, Then Maybe It Should Be Stopped Everywhere And What Good Would That Do To Anyone? If Anything, It Can Probably Increase SEO Ranking To Cross Promote - That Was My Intent

I'm Actually Going To End This Because While I'm Upset About It, I'm Not Here To Cause Hard Feelings Or Problems, I Added My Two Steps To Help Not Let Things Get This Far. I Came Here For The Love Of Design, I'm Passionate About My Work And What I Do And If Anyone Can Support Me As I Will Support You, That's Where Strength Is, And If Not, Then Oh Well.

I Wish Everyone Success And Hope We Can Put This Terrible Mess Behind Us.  Smiley
