Grouping cards
Sep 4th, 2009, 8:28am

I just thought that it might be a good idea to gruop similar cards together. EG all wedding themed or all birthday/christmas/ mothers day etc. Would this be worth doing once a store has a lot of cards? or maybe not?? undecided

I think it's a good idea, it would also help break up the groupings of similar cards, i.e. same design, different wording on the front page of our shops?

Groupings of similar cards can easily be brought up through the search box on our store front page.  Maybe we need to make that clearer to the customers.

Just a thought,

I do try to group my cards together - but there is no way that I know of - to indicate what the groups/categories are....(i get confused at times myself...)

I think this would make our individual stores a little easier to navigate thru....

This has been discussed a million different ways.  I've always suggested that we have galleries, collections or whatever you want to call them like flickr and smugmug have but the idea seems to get a cold reception each time I mention it.  If we had them, I think it would make things a little more organized.  I like the idea.

Actually I had started out arranging my store gallery that way. All my birthday, halloween, x-mas, wedding baby etc together. Taking the time after my cards were OK'd to rearrange them in place etc. I have all new cards auto sent to the back of the store - so i can arrange them as I please. Treating it like a real GC store and having the current holiday and  Occassions up front, followed by birthdays, etc. All was well until the day I accidentally hit the "least popular" button while rearranging my gallery and realized that the only way to get things back in place was to go thru all 400+ cards 1 by 1. WAH! So I just put the current Holidays and occassions back up front and than it is followed by wahtever.

I do try & break up any clusters of too similar cards if possible on the 1st 2 pages of my store front - so customers aren't hit by a solid wall of my "purple Tulip - for mom, sis, niece etc. cards. As I find that's a real turn-off even for me when I look at other GCU artists' stores and I know the WHy behind the phenom. This is why I have the "New" cards go to the back of the store. Also When a holiday/season is over I send those cards to the back etc. I figure most people aren't wading thru all my cards.

Yes - it would be great if we can Have Galleries/folders - where we could rearrange each gallery/folder but I think it actually works ok this way too. Don't know about you guys but most of my customers buy my cards via keywords or other searches thru GCU, Big Dates, Google or whatever - very few actually enter thru my portal and buy directly via my store. I do have note on my store front telling those few customers that enter that they can navigate my store via my categories.

That is a lot of work when you have over 400 cards. Try doing it with over 6000 cards!
Galleries or categories we can arrange ourselves are the best idea, and are long overdue.

This is something that would help the artists very much but GCU has said it is very low priority so I would not expect it to happen for a long time.

The site is designed to pull the shoppers out of the individual stores into the main crowd, not to allow artists to draw and maintain customers. This serves one type of shopper but ignores another, perhaps more loyal, type of shopper.
