Hey guys: I am on facebook and was intrigued when I saw 'create an ad' so I figured 'what the heck?'
If you haven't looked into it - what happens is that you upload a graphic, type a headline and a short blurb - the ad can run as long as you want - and you can spend as much as you want - meaning you pay a small fee each time someone clicks on your ad - if no one clicks on your ad - you don't pay. My ad was: GLBT Greeting Cards - a picture of the Rainbow Birds - Unique Notes for all occasions 100% Money Back Guarantee
Now the amount you pay is called a 'Bid' - it recommends .63 to start...then as the ad ran it told me to change my bid to .10 - so I reduced it to .15 - I assume you are bidding against other ad people for web time. So at the end of the weekend I was paying .15 cents every time someone clicked on the ad.
You can set the cap - even .10 will add up - so I put a ceiling of $9.00 for both Saturday and Sunday ($18.00) this weekend. Or if you want - you can have no ceiling and just let it run.....your choice. You also set the time frame - it can be ongoing if you wish. I only targeted those within the US but I will probably expand that next time- if there is a next time.
You can also target certain demographics - I had facebook only show the ad for those of the GLBT community - they also list what they call 'impressions' which I take to mean the amount of times the ad showed on different facebook pages : 45,440 for the weekend
Now after this weekend I had a total of 177 hits on my store - not too shabby - no one bought anything

but it did generate traffic and a lot of clicks on certain cards - it let me see which ones catch peoples' eye - Rainbow Birds, Rainbow Cross, Wearing That, Pretty Boy and Liquor in the Front (Sensual Moments - wink) did very well. There were smaller spikes in other cards but those were the ones that really changed. If I had a higher ceiling and let it run longer who knows?
I would probably do it again....after I stock my store a little more...if anyone else has done this or the myspace one - I'd like to hear how you did...
Thanks!
