My first cards or approved
Aug 6th, 2009, 1:54pm

I have about 16 of my cards up now and most are just blank inside as the main theme of my storefront is the cats of kitty city which are all rescued from euthanasia and now have a second chance.  A few i did as occasions but did not know the best way to go as my talent is not writing. I understand that whatever you write can be overridden anyway. Is it best to make duplicates of each card with different occasions? I thought of writing each cats name and story inside the card but did not know if that was a good idea either. Any way i did order them for myself so that i can see what quality the cards are.

Hi Ed,

Welcome to GCU.  I think your cards are just precious.  As far as writing, I am more of a photographer than a writer, but I am told that cards with writing often sell better, even if they can be edited by the buyer.  So it is a good idea to add words.  Having said that, I don't always do that.
You will be thrilled with the card quality.  It is heavy card stock, better than any store I've I 've seen......

I see great success for your store.  I love kitties too and have four rescues, and have fostered and rehomed many kittens and puppies. Many of my photographs are of rescues, I wish you much success!

Hi Ed,
I have visited your store. I love your cards and cats! I am glad they now have second chance. Maybe you tell  their stories in Artist's Notes? I have a dog and a cat rescued from the street, they are my best friends!
I wish you and your cats all the best!

Thanks for the complements. I hope some of the people who adopt our cats will also like to purchase some cards with their own cats photo on the front.
Now that i have a few cards up i can spend a little more time with future cards working on the inside writing or words.

Welcome Ed!  What a wonderful store and great pictures!  As everyone else, I too have two rescue brothers and a rescue dog...all our pets throughout the years have been rescues and they are the best pets.  I volunteer for our local Humane Society by photographing the animals and putting together an annual DVD with music for their fund raising dinner. It is most rewarding.

One suggestion on your cards.  Do keep in mind that 1/4-inch around the edges may be cut off during printing, so keep those ears and paws away from the edges.  There is a template you can use if you like, but you might just consider putting a small border around the photograph to ensure your photos don't get snipped off.

Good luck!!

A big GCU welcome, Ed.   Just had a look at your precious collection of kitty cards.  Terrific.  I love your little "Charlie Chaplin" kitty.

Hi Ed, welcome to you and the kitties!  Your photography is excellent - sharp, clean, stunning  Cool

Kudos to you for putting occasion specific verses in your cards!  This will make a difference in sales by helping shoppers connect with your images and messages.  It gives them a reason to send a beautiful image of a cat, not just because it's a beautiful cat.

Brownie points too for the stories in your Artist's Notes section.  Cheesy

Take care with your keywords and be as descriptive as possible.  Many shoppers search by color and breed so if it's a black and white cat, tabby or calico for example certainly add it to your keywords.  It could be the difference between a shopper finding your card or not.

Why not try a few cards for Occasions >> Get Well / Feel Better category with something along the lines of "hope you are feline better"  Tongue

Thanks everyone for all the complements, and also for the good suggestions. I went to everyones store that replied and liked them all . Everyone here is so creative.  Lots of talent here! I didn't realize there would be so many other people here that like cats also.

I noticed that i can go back and add key words and correct some misspelled words on the artists notes after the cards have been approved. That is nice because as you can see i misspelled "are"  in the title of this thread....ooops!  Smiley

Hi Ed,
I love your photography of your rescue cats! As Mindy said, very clear and crisp....aren't cats gorgeous? I am also an animal lover, my last few pets have all been from Animal Shelters or given away by people who didn't want them anymore...they have been the best pets ever, and very loving and loyal.
I like the idea of putting their stories in the artist notes....I wish we could put a little blurb on the left side of the card, that would be good for cards such as these....but I guess that's on the wish-list! Wink
Good luck to you in your sales,
Avis

I recieved my order of my own cards today. They are better than i was expecting. The photos actually look alot sharper and better on the cards than on the computer screen to me. Some are glossy and some are mat finish and i like both equally well.
