Color is outstanding-----Norval
Aug 3rd, 2009, 11:02am

I reset the color on my monitor.  This worked for me--------it is set completely outside the perimeter of the color management program.  I set it through the management program so the on screen exactly matched the color reproduction I was getting from GCU.  This was completely out of the gamma.  I ordered the 'Lady Australia' card [ the collaboration Eugenia and I did for Redbubble ].  I just received it, the color from screen to repro are right on the button now.  I had been complaining about color, but this little adjustment I think has solved the problem. It was not GCU producing faded color, it was what I was seeing on screen was not accurate.  You might want to give this method a try if you are having color problems.                Norval

Great job Norval!  Calibration is a MUST when working on computer output.  It might be 'standard' for me because I studied the Zone System in college which is entirely calibration of camera, film and developer, so this transferred to my computer environment.  When calibration is off, it can cause you horrible printing issues.

Here it goes Avis, remember I am working in photoshop 5.5 on and old '98 so may not be the same on your computer.  The message is match to your screen image to your reproduction.  I saved the old settings so I could change back and forth because the positive comments I was getting were 'I love your ethereal color, I love your dreamy soft color'  well thats what had me confused , my color was anything but ethereal, I was painting bright enough to knock your socks off.
1.       clicked color management, box says Adobe 5.5 color------open Adobe Gamma,
2.        Brightness and Contrast---------management says 'make dark until you can barely see the light squares.  To match the reproduction I had to set mine at the maximum brightness,  squares are really contrasted.
3.         Hardware is set to 7500K not the recomended 9,300K cool white, adjusted box 'same as hardware.
4.          Set the save as sRGB color instead of the recommended Adobe color.
5.           next there is a selection of 5 settings-------I set mine at working space is sRGB
6.           next I clicked always convert mismatched files, then clicked box whether to always ask on untagged files.----------------The End
This worked on my old monitor and system, you will just have to tweak until you get a match-----it took me working back and forth for hours.

Dorren as you can see from above, following the standard recommendations was givng me bad color so I finially tryed out side the box.    Some one on GCU had told me to match screen and repro ages ago but I never took the time to follow through.  I thought the books and programs recomendations must be right.  In my case they weren't.

Norval-

I'm glad you finally got that monitor calibration to work for you.  That's pretty much the same adjustment I'd made on my ol' Mac.  But, you know, your old colors were great, too. . .  now you have options!

I still need to get a new 'puter though, as things keep going slower and slower on the net - I can't upgrade Flash  embarrassed sigh. . . and a simple Twitter takes 5 minutes to show  Shocked  I just was window shopping on the  Mac site and put my "dream machine" in the cart. . . just a little over 5 grand!  Let's see, how many cards sold is that?   Tongue I can dream anyway  Cheesy can't I?

Good to see you on here Ernestine.  I'm in the same boat, more and more sites are not supporting the E6 browser or the flash I have.  I am going to keep creating on my '98, but probably will get a Wallmart special so have updated stuff so I can upload.  I like my programs I have now and see no sense in having to buy new ones.  I guess thats the Scotts in me. note to self .. must recalibrate my monitor after work tonight!

It's been on my to-do list, but I've been INCREDIBLY lazy.  Bad bad thing for a graphic artist working digitally!

Thank you for the reminder ...
