Anyone else notice?
Jul 29th, 2009, 12:56pm

For the entire year I have been here, about 98 percent of my sales have been wedding related. However, I have noticed recently an upswing in sales of birthday, encouragement and other cards. To me this is very exciting because I see it as a sign that we are getting more general customers and not just people searching for a card on a search engine. Anyone else notice the change?

Yes!  I did notice this!  Hooray!  I'm glad that it's not just my shop experiencing this!  I'm really excited by the mix of cards that I've sold this month, because, let's face it, everyone has a birthday, but, not ever day is a bridesmaid invite day!  So, yes, I am seeing a mix and it makes me very hopeful for future sales, not just for myself, but for the the entire Greeting Card Universe!

While we're being observant, I've noticed that the majority of my sales, for the bridesmaid cards, come from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Texas, so, I'm wondering, is there extra advertising that is done in those states?  Or is the bridesmaid invite more popular there?  And, has anyone else noticed this?

All very interesting!

Hi Penny,
Your observations on the wedding sales made me take a look at where my wedding sales go. New York and New Jersey were the winners, with Texas, California and Ohio next. My other observation, with wedding and anniversary cards, is that the more contemporary designs seem to do better in the North East, Texas and California with the more traditional doing better in the mid west and the southern states.

Angela I can't help you with any new observations on your question but on another topic. I visited your store today and I tried to go to the URL's you list in your bulletin (see below) but they don't seem to work. They pull up a main page, probably it's me being a dolt, but I thought you might want to check it out.

I do notice in the Red Bubble URL there is a comma before the 'com' but even with that corrected Red Bubble says you no longer exist Huh

Ive sold an assortment of my cards, to Texas, California,  and New York, I`ve been here a little over a year also, Ive not yet sold one wedding related card, but then again, Ive just started to design in that category, after seeing they seem to sell well here at GCU.
Continued Good Luck Everyone!

Hi,

I'm really new here (4 months) I've sold 3 cards so far, one 75th Birthday (California), one Bon Voyage (Michigan), And one Best Wishes ( To a friend here in Ontario, Canada). I've been getting lots of clicks, but I have not yet made any Wedding Cards.  Do you think that this is the way to go? I've noticed that most of the cards being flashed on the just sold section are Wedding related. But I thought there might be so many cards in that category, mine might get lost. I've been looking for empty knishes to fill.

Any thoughts on all of this?

Angela: Ditto!  Smiley

For Ruth, and anyone else interested:  When I first started submitting cards here, I thought that there were so many wedding cards that no one would ever see mine, but, thankfully, they have and I do sell them.  Smiley  Personally, I think that the best way to go is to make relationship specific cards, "Be my bridesmaid, Sister, Best Friend, Cousin, etc."  And, I think that you'll have a better chance at selling the cards if they have an inside verse, rather than a blank card.  Just my 2-cents.

Certainly other avenues if you want to be a big fish in a little pond....
1) Watch the Wanted New Cards postings:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=request

2) Look to the Card Category list often for categories with 0 (highlighted) to few cards:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/forum/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=request

For example:
Holidays >> April Fools' Day >> 1st / First April Fools' Day >> Baby's 1st / First April Fools' Day

Again, just a point of interest: New York (which includes New Jersey suburbs), California and Texas are places where there are folks with money that are still having big traditional weddings. . . hence lots of bridesmaids/groomsmen to invite, rehearsal dinners etc. . . and those weddings happen June through the summer mostly so the cards would have already gone out.  Folks have birthdays all year round. . . though did you know that more birthdays ARE in September, October and November than the rest of the months?  Must have something to do with with the cold winter months.  Grin

Not to argue, but Lots of people have valentine's and Christmas weddings, and I get orders from all over the United States and around the world.
