"Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane," which has been interpreted by many artists is probably what this card is reminding you of.  A well known version is by Heinrich Hofmann, a German artist.  This concept of Christ kneeling at the rock is used in bibles, and everything from needlepoint kits to air-fresheners.

It doesn't just remind me of it, it is a copy of it. Is it not copyrighted? Even the fingers are in the exact same position.

We will have a slightly lower quarter payout for the second quarter than the first quarter, however, this month so far has been our best ever so far, so I'm not complaining!

You know, I see a ton of things like this where the artist has just put a picture through a "filter", or distorted it somehow to make it "their own". I don't understand how that can be permitted, but I guess it is because I see it on here all the time. Same goes for quotes and poetry written by people who are still alive. You know theseartists did not get permission to use them, and yet they are profiting from it. Please note: I am not saying that's what happened with this picture, I honestly don't know.

The card is a picture of a stained glass window called Jesus Prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, so many churches have this as a stained glass window it's unreal, it's prob an illustration out of a bible as well, (my names Tanya) that is the artist who took the pic, I always put their names on them even if not required. It's not copy written its not an artists work, they are massively produced stained glass windows , this is a photograph.

All I did was jiggle the colours arround and add the borders text etc, I wanted it dark an took out obvious chunks of stained glass to make it a bit smoother.

If this stained glass window is copy written then that would mean we can't take pics of any stained glass windows, which I have taken tons of, rather insulting to be honest, I always check I purchase photographs, I take photographs, I illustrate my own things, I creat my own 3d items, and I creat my own photoshop brushes, I do not need to steal borrow or beg art off anyone.

I won't give you my picture sourse, but if it conserns anyone here purchase the same one http://images.inmagine.com/img/valuestock/unz360/u16110507.jpg 184£ and you get a whole few hundred of them. Should have pm'd me save u bother of trolling for some obscure German Artist who copied a copy of a bible plate. G fancy insulting my name any more or you happy with urking me this mutch.?

Tanya, there was no intention of irking you or insulting you or your name.  What I was trying to say, but, apparently did not do so well at, was that yes, this image is familiar because it is used so much, like I stated in everything from bibles to needlepoint kits, etc.

And as for your name or the photographer's name, I was merely asking, because there are several people who have/or use different names, from the shop name to the forum name to their own 'real' name, if you will.

You might consider adding information about your cards/images in artist notes when you're using a photo taken by someone else, if it is of an image that is widely recognized, regardless of how "obscure" the artist is, or is not.

Again, there was absolutely no intention on my part to insult.  Please accept my apology.

Pamela, I'm sorry, I believe that this thread did get off topic, because of my posting.  It was not my intention.

It was not you I was refering to fully (missed that bit) but the blatent slur of copy write Smiley

And thanks to a wonderful pm from a sweet lady, I have calmed down hugely...

I am on a share program with other photogrophers a sort of friendly thing, they use mine I use theirs, we have no copy write we have no linking to our names, but I wanted to put the credit on the card itself to show appreciation, perhaps I will now return to the card (should be hillarious fun to find it now) and place more detail on the artist notes.

Hi Penny,
No apology needed Smiley
Once we got the low down from Tom there wasn't a whole lot else to add to this.
Happy that all is now resolved on the other topic.

Sorry, Tanya, I really wasn't trying to be insulting. I am still trying to learn all this copyright stuff myself as I am rather new to this business. If you will read the end of my post, I did say I wasn't accusing you of doing anything wrong, I am just wondering where the line is drawn for my own reference.

I've had more sales in July than previous months.  But then again I added a couple hundred cards in the past few weeks.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

Congrats Angela (Aries Art)

Love to hear you have had a good month, more cards certainly increases your chances, but good design I think is key. You must be doing something very right! Smiley

Hi Tom,
Sorry to hear that your July sales have been slow.  I too have been a bit disappointed with July sales this year.  Just yesterday my sales equalled last July...so just 4 more days to get more sales then last year...a little disappointing.  You have touched on my sore spot as I am always trying to figure out how to get more sales and never seem to be able to hit on something which will make a nice difference in my store.  August was good last year so we will see about this year.  Tom, here is hoping your August brings lots of smileys your way. Smiley
