that is great news... I wasn't one of the people - probably because I'm so new here... but I still have to ask - is there a way to watermark images and not have that mark show on the actual printed product?

Some of you may  consider saving this post for   your legal records. Will stand in legal battle if further accion is necessary.

Simply click to print, then save as PDF file it will embedded digitally the date and time- this information can’t be alter that is why all digital documents are legal proof on trial.

Good luck to all.

Now lets keep creating!!!!

This is true, there is no one international copyright law - however there are a number of treaties in place which standardize international copyright for the signing countries, including the U.S. I'm talking about the Berne Convention, Universal Copyright Convention, Rome Convention, WTO TRIPS Agreement, and WIPO Copyright Treaty.

In addition, each country has its own copyright laws - Republic Act No. 8293 in the Philippines, which is where the blog owner lives. At a brief glance, Republic Act No. 8293 doesn't differ significantly from U.S. copyright law or the principles of the Berne Convention.

Bottom line? What the blog owner did was illegal, but as she has removed my designs, I'm not going to take further action.

Donna
She did not sell, not to my awareness, but offered them for free download, but that is still stealing and money loss for us, who wants to buy our stuff when they can download it for free anywhere else.

Your concern is right, and it's impossible to protect your work 100%, I am sure mine and others work are being copied, stolen, sold or offered for free a lot of places, it's just luck when finding these places, amazing Corrie found this one.

Also are there many out there who really don't care about copyright etc. they really truely believe it's their right to take whatever they like and do with it whatever they want there are even groups who does this and if they get discovered they start a hateful hetz against the artist they have stolen from, they just don't care.

A watermark is fine, but it never covers the whole picture and the thief will always find a way to cut it off and use other details from the image, I've seen that done too.
Putting a gitter onto the front destroys the image so much that the customer will find it hard to decide if it's an image to their liking or not, and many will be so annoyed that they will find others places to buy the cards.

Yes she have removed all for now, but I have downloaded it all, so I have proof of what she did to my art, this matter is not over for me, far from.

Do have a great day all

Hi,
Yes - she have removed usurped designs (taken from Corrie and others from GCU) from her site

http://mysimplethoughtsncreations.blogspot.com/.

Some other staff (not from GCU) remain there.

I'm new here and new to the greeting card thing all together but one thing I certainly agree with is having some control over where my images go... if this person is stealing images here and using them to 'sell' her new products - free or not - I am all for supporting a cease and desist order.  She's not benefiting any of us by taking our work freely and using it to her liking and setting a wrong example for everyone else when we are here trying to sell our products that they can take freely and use.

One thing I suggest to the creators of this site - can there be a watermark put onto our images in preview and have non-watermarked images printed onto the actual paper cards - thereby perhaps reducing the desire to steal images?  It might help keep people from freely taking images from here... I have all my images on Deviantart.com watermarked and I don't allow downloads.

I certainly plan to copyright my images as soon as some funds free up...

GCU does offer an image watermark option, see your Global Preferences:

I commented  about the subject before. GCU doesn’t lowers image resolution when displaying thumbnail images. They can easily be  restore to a fairly  printing quality.

We upload images at a higher resolution an GCU  for some reason keeps the   display images at a higher resolution for customer to see . Even is the images is 1” X 1”  it can be digital  restore if its kept at a higher resolution.

If your images don't have the GCU copyright watermark when displayed.. well… runs the risk to end in a  freebie  scrapbooking goodies.

Corrie,  you have several legal cases in your favor. Contact me personally and will let you know.

Can you elaborate on how you are able to determine that the images are kept at high resolution?   If the thumbnail image were enlarged it would like be blurry and distorted.

Shaun,

Many of the images she had for upload were large (800 x 1000) and fairly high quality. She did not get these from the thumbnails but could have gotten them from the "view larger" images.

i personally dont want anyone using my art... it takes a lot of time and effort for me to create my images..., and everyone else too - i am sure;

we r all on here because we like sharing our work of course, but we are all hoping to sell a few cards too - and in my opinion - "giving" our work away is like taking money out of my pocket

I dont only use my images for cards....so i dont want someone else taking the credit for my work

i removed the copyright from my cards a few months ago after talk here about the copyright image making it too hard to see some of the images...

should i put the copyright symbol back on my cards?

AND - since i dont have an actual copyright from the gov't ... can she or others just take my stuff?

Agreed, it's very likely she took the images from the medium or large view, and a watermark is one way that this could have been prevented.  My question was regarding her comment about the 90x125 pixel thumbnail images.

Hi,
Anyone can still copy "large view" of any of our cards - click on the picture (with left button on the mouse) and drag it with left button on the mouse to the browser - it will appeared in new tab and you can do everything with it - post it, copy it, save it, ...
I can do this in Mozilla Firefox and in Window Internet Explorer.
Unfortunately for us - Anyone can steal anything if really want to do it!

There are also programs like ScreenGrab that allow you to grab images even when right-click has been disabled.

Since there is no absolute 100% guaranteed way of ensuring your images can't be snatched (except removing them entirely from the Internet), you might consider what I do: every couple of months, I do a Google search for my name. You'd be surprised what comes up. Of course, if the dastardly copycat doesn't credit my name, I won't see it, but you never know. Can't hurt to check.
