June 2009 Results
Jul 1st, 2009, 1:13am

Hi all,

As I've done previously, I'm sharing my sales results with everyone so that we can watch growth in action.  GCU monthly card sales are growing, but so are the number of artists and cards.  In order for us each to grow our sales, we need to stay engaged, add new cards, and design cards that stand-out so that shoppers buy ours.  Try new things and add to new categories.

Last June I sold 75 cards.  This June, 254 cards.  That's a 239% Y-Y increase  (100% is doubling, so 239% is actually 3.39x more cards sold).

My monthly sales are growing at a pace equivalent to +22.3%/month (the black line).  Although the total number of cards sold is not comparable to the work I've put in over 17 months, this rate of growth will eventually make it all worthwhile I believe.  Think of it as a savings account growing at over 20%/month.

My average commission per card for the last 3 months has been $0.407, $0.497, and $0.538.  I sold the highest number of cards in April but actually made less commission than in June due to most sales in June being single card sales.

I will be gone for 10 days so I will not be able to reply to this thread for a while.  Happy 4th everyone!

TOM

Hey, Tom!  Thanks for the info!  Smiley  It's always interesting to see the growth.  As I've just had my one year GCU anniversary, July will be the first month that I will be able to compare this year to last, so, it should be interesting for me to see the growth (which I know is there.)

Hope that you're having a grand time!  But can you really stay away for 10 days?  Wink

I sold about 8 percent fewer cards this quarter than last quarter, but I know part of that is just steeper competition. I think it's going to have to be a year by year comparison rather than a quarter by quarter comparison, simply because of the holidays and seasons genrating such different sales.

Any advice to artists only selling a handful here and there?  I have recently added a hundred or so cards so I will be at about 500 cards when all have been approved.  I know I'm still fairly new here - been active for 7 months.

The advice I can give is what has been given before. Keep making new cards, watching the highest-searched categories, studying the best sellers, and making cards in categories where there are only a few designs to chose from. You never know when you are going to hit on a winner, so just keep trying!

Another quick question - do you find that creating a single design and changing it up with specific Bdays or relations (son, daughter, mother, uncle, etc) helps with sales?  I have been checking other artists pages and you see one full page of the same design with slight differences...does that help with sales or deter sales?
