how do you set up collaborations here?
Jun 26th, 2009, 6:13pm

Hi folks... I'm new here and loaded my first images for review.  I have a question - have a pen pal in California - I'm in CT - if we wanted to combine efforts (she's great with words/I'm the image creator) - how do you sell cards with a combined effort like this?  I'm so green please be gentle....

Hi Donna, welcome...I just peeked at your store, your rose card is beautiful.  I'll let the GCU experts add any rules/guidelines they might provide and simply through out my idea for your collaboration effort.

I would think that if the two of you were okay with splitting the proceeds however you choose, the simplest solution would be for you to provide a way for her to view the photographs you want to use, one of the two of you or both look through the categories and decide what that photograph would be good for as a card, then she writes the words and one of you creates the card.  If you want words on the front, then you probably are the one that needs to do that before the image is uploaded, or if you want your friend to do all the wording simply send your 300dpi 5x7 photographic image to her (whatever means works for you) and then she uploads and adds the text she came up with on the inside.

I'm only offering suggestions, but my guess is you need to work out the who does what and get it done before the card is in the actual creation screens of GCU.

Good Luck!!

Hello there!   I'm new also.  I think it's amazing that you asked this.  I have been talking with my sister, she's in Utah, I'm in California.  She's got some clever ideas.  Words that will go along with my art.  She could also help me add cards to my store.
I'd like her to be able to get in my store and do a few things for me (like make it look better and more professional -- I don't seem to have time).   I will work out the payment to her when the time comes.
Is there a way that we can both manage my store?  We wouldn't need to be in at the same time if that's a problem.

Bambi, my partner and I run the GCU store together. You sister only needs your log-in and password to be able to access your account.

I know you trust your sister, but I'd caution others against giving out your log-in information to people you don't know very well or aren't sure if you can trust, because they'll have access to your payment information as well.

that sounds like a plan but I also wonder about how to set up where we could split proceeds of any sales... since we are on opposite sides of the country, we have an issue as to who is "in charge".  Do I sell and send her a check or establish an actual partnership - either way involving legalities... any thoughts on how best to accomplish this?  As a total newbie, I don't want to do anything improper...

Donna, my strength is writing. While most of my cards are humorous (or at least intended to be), some are more caring. And a few are both. Please check them out. I would be interested in collaborating.

Donna, there is currently no way for your quarterly artist's commissions to be split between two people unless you do it yourself by sending your friend a check after you get paid. As for legal protection, that's always a good idea. You may want to do an Internet search for something like "free legal forms" to find a standard boilerplate contract you can modify to suit your needs.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the offer - if it's ok, I'd like to give this a try as I learn the ropes before jumping into a collaboration.  I'll definitely keep it in mind... I have loads of pet pictures and after looking at your cards I'm sure you'd have some humorous words to put to them...
