GCU cards appearing on other's blogs
May 25th, 2009, 8:22pm

I spotted these GCU cards on a blog...Although the person mentioned the pictures were "borrowed" from GCU, it doesn't seem to be of much benefit to the cardmaker, since there  is no link back to the person's card.

Tom, two of your cards appear there, Corrie, one of yours.  Not sure who the other artists are, but I think they are GCU artists.

Well- at least they do link back to GCU. So that is good! Congrats though to all who are featured- that means your cards stood out among the rest! Smiley

Jacqueline....good catch!  I really think these cards should have a link back to the artists stores, it's a bit of a nerve otherwise don't you agree? I mean maybe if the potential customer looks hard to find these cards...okay, but they may not!
Just my two cents....and I'll admit I could be wrong as it's the middle of my night shift, (04:20)and my perception might be skewed! LOL! Grin

JacQ -

Nice to see.  Those 2 cards of mine have sold well, so perhaps it was partially due to that blurb.  It was a February blurb so may not be seen much at this point, but it shows the potential of blog marketing.

My wedding related card sales have been very poor of late!

Thanks, Jacqueline, for spotting this website. The concept of the weddingfanatic post is a great idea -- getting people to think of sending a card to invite a friend to be a groomsman.  It probably wouldn't have occurred to a lot of young men (or their fiancees) to send a card.  They might have texted their request and probably still do that, too.  It might have been difficult to link back to the original card, but a credit to the artist would have been nice.  The link to GCU did work, though, which probably introduced many new people to GCU.  Those are great cards, too!  Grin

well i am a little late to this post it has been read 112 times already, but, i visited their site and decided to send this note to them.

Hello,
You have a beautiful site and it seems to be a treasure trove of information.  I am an artist with Greeting Card Universe and another artist had noticed you posted some of the cards from this site.  Is it possible to add GCU to your resource list?  There are cards for every area of interest for a wedding, varieties of color schemes, themes, religious preference or style, from the point of engagement through to the honeymoon, including invitations and thank you cards.   Also most of the artists will do custom work.  Some can provide an avenue to matching save a date cards and postage.  There is a discount for bulk ordering and both matte and glossy cards available.  Please let me know if there is any information about how to be included in your resource list.
Thank you,
Denise Beverly

I would love to know how she did it. I haven't figured out how to place a card design from here  on a blog yet. Anyone know?

This is the same problem that I've had from posting my pics on flickr.  People think that it's ok to just "borrow" the pics as the blog says underneath the row of cards.  I would find my pics on blogs and websites and it would be rather frustrating.

I guess there are two sides to the issue here but it would be nice if they asked for permission first.  It is the property of the artist.  Here again, I really hate that ugly watermark but I'm sure they wouldn't have used these if they had the watermark on the pic.  It's a shame.  They really should have created a link on each card back to the artist's store. I know in my blog I can do that, at least under each pic.  I think the email Denise sent was a a kind response to their "borrowing" the cards.  Maybe they will respond and change it.

I personally am fine with "pictures borrowed from Greeting Card Universe".

If I was going to write about the great items I found at WalMart, I wouldn't say "found at Walmart, third aisle on the left in the garden department" - I would just say "found at WalMart!".

If you aren't a member of this community, you probably don't REALIZE that individual artists are in charge of their own shops.

If I found one of my cards on a blog - I'd leave a public blog comments, thanking them, and possibly THERE including the direct link to my store.  I'd also go back to my image and add tags that would be relevent to THAT BLOG.

Just my two cents  Wink

Neva,
Whilst you feel that a certain sense of protocol may have been overlooked, I feel there was no improper intent here and in the end this is free advertising for GCU and these artists cards. I think Denise's initiative was great, it was friendly and informative. If I was the blogger I would be excited that an artist contacted me and offered to work with me, which brings an opportunity for both sides.
When you offer any product for sale there is always the possibility that someone is going to take the idea or product and make it their own. Yet you will never sell a product if it is not seen. Exposure is key and the greater percentage of people are not going to steal your ideas, they will become followers and customers.

my hope in sending the note was to provide another avenue for advertising our cards. should they have asked before posting.. yes, i think they should have.  but, that is toothpaste out of the tube so to speak... can't be put back , so... we take advantage of it and go from here.

actually bridal is probably one of my weakest areas as far as cards i have created, i guess i need to step it up.. but i do know many of you specialize.. such as teri does with wonderful wedding cards.  hopefully this will be a good jump point to other areas, other blogs, more advertising............until we take over the world.... ( oops sorry too many pinky and the brain cartoons..  Grin  )

i just noticed i became a senior member... more stars, more stars, does that mean i talk too much?

Denise,
Nice note to the blogger....thanks for thinking of this, and hopefully it will result in something good for all of us.  Though I too don't have much in the wedding line, and should probably 'step it up' too!
By the way, congrats. on the stars...and yes it does mean you talk a lot....but especially in this case, we're really glad you do! LOL! Grin
