Rotation
May 19th, 2009, 6:13pm

I find it disconcerning that the promo cards don't rotate...there are a lot of great cards that aren't highlighted...am wondering why this rotation doesn't happen.  Also, I would love to know the ratio of "promo cards to sales".
I will bite......................when one of my cards is represented on a promo' I get more clicks, and more sales.

I agree 100% with Linda.  I too was wondering why do all the other home page images rotate every time you log in, but the featured stay stagnant?  I get bored seeing them day after day and I would think customers would too.  Can't they rotate within the primary category, so we all get our 'moment in the spot light"?

Nan,
Home Page, right where your eyes would land mid-upper-third of the page.  Four (I think) in a horizontal row...I've seen them so many times that I can quote "Dad, Your One in a Chameleon", "Golf Pro Dad" and two graduation cards.

see them?

Hey, Linda!

Interesting question, and I've got an answer!  Last Christmas, one of my cards was on the home page, representing "snowmen" cards, and it was also included in the email that went out.  It was on the main page for at least 3 weeks, which was really cool!  The card itself was not clickable.  Clicking on the card took a person to that section of Christmas greeting cards.  Total number of sales for this card:  Zero.  Total number of clicks for this card:  23.

I also had a Mother-in-Law's Day card chosen as a GCU Pick.  That card was clickable.  Total sales for that card:  One!  Number of clicks:  Currently at 43, but, I believe that it had some when it was picked.

So, I don't know what this means.  But, I thought it was really neat to have my cards on the home page, in the email and as a GCU Pick!  Smiley

I remember when I would hope to be picked in the GCU picks, and I can also remember it would be so nice to have one of my cards selected as a promo card, neither ever happened and recall it bothering me, but that was then and this is now.  I gave up hoping for those things, as they never did happen, that I know of.  Shame, but we do move on.  I still love my art and my cards, regardless and don't even pay attention to the GCU picks anymore.

I have had one chosen for GCU picks, a St. Patrick's Day card, http://artist.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/viewdetails.asp?pid=353322& page=1. I got several clicks, about 25, but no sales.  Sad  So, it doesn't always translate into sales, or even many clicks. But then, it wasn't on the Home Page, either. So, there you go.

Well, to be fair they should all rotate.  I notice the recently cards rotate but nothing else seems to.  Even if you don't get any sales from being on the home page, a customer may bookmark your page and they may come back later to look at your site and BUY!!  Smiley a card.  At least it's some exposure even if they don't sell, you never know. To be honest, even having external links to my store,  I feel like I'm sitting in  a room waiting for someone to open the door. Huh

This has been requested on more than one occasion and is on our wish list.  There are technical issues as to why it has not been done yet.

As for being featured and chosen for the homepage promo, email promos and GCU Picks...don't be disheartened  undecided  Hopefully one day you will be delighted  Smiley and it was well worth the wait.

Mindy, how does a card get chosen for the email promos? I don't think that question has been answered anywhere. Thanks.

And Mind, while you're at it, is it possible to tell if a card being part of a promo, such as in an email, on the home page, or in GCU picks, actually leads to a temporary increase in sales of that card?

I've only noticed that, a few times, if I have a card show up in the New Cards Sold section that it has brought on a subsequent sale.  Still rare though.

We certainly track when promo codes are redeemed yet do not track back if the card purchased was actually one featured in the promo.  We also track other sales sources ie: where they came from and what page they clicked from which would id home page, category page, favorites, GCU Picks, etc.  but again we do not match the purchase back to the featured card image.

Mindy, how does a card get chosen for the email promos? I don't think that question has been answered anywhere. Thanks.
Kathy

Cards in Email Promos similar to homepage promos are handpicked based on many things like...
o fit to the occasion
o variety and range (colors, style/medium, artists, old & new, colors, traditional & unique)
o orientation (some promos dictate landscape cards while others require portrait)

Cards suggested in Email Reminders is an automated process based on many things like match to profile settings, keywords, title, category and some randomization so each reminder is a bit different.

Soon you will begin to see some product photos of cards.  We will be using them on the site and in promotional emails to communicate that GCU sells REAL paper cards and that they are top quality.  The cards featured in these photo collections are being selected by our photography team again based on many factors like orientation, range of colors, style/medium, artists, traditional & unique, etc.

Why don't you also do a little 60-second video clip for shopper, artist, and reseller describing the real cards, the buying process, the card creation process, and so forth?  A link to each with a pop-up small video window (even a youtube one) would be rather effective I would think.  It wouldn't need to be very fancy.
