Earth Day
Mar 18th, 2009, 8:25am

I think Earth Day is on April 22nd? I looked online. Can we promote this holiday more prominently?

I really couldn't find a date when looking on the GCU site. I may be missing something obvious, Earth Day cards do come up but there is not a date on the page that I can see. It seems like a missed opportunity. I also don't see it listed in the upcoming holidays box on the All Paper Cards page.
Feel free to let me know if I am missing something here. Smiley

Thanks so much Beverly,
I did see this, so this IS the date.

I was just hoping it might be promoted a little more prominently on GCU as schools celebrate this day and environmental issues are very popular. It seems like a missed opportunity.

Hi Pamela,

Did you see Earth Day Category sub listed under Holiday Category Heading?

Still, Please GCU, it would also be nice to see Earth Day listed on side bar for upcoming holidays/occasions. Looks good on GCU too to be promoting such. Speaking of which - cheers to GCU for using paper product from Forest Stewardship Council with credit on card backs now to describe  "Product group from well-managed forests, controlled sources and recycled wood or fibre".

Cheers, Lisa

A little history:

The first Earth Day was April 22nd, 1970, celebrated by 20 million Americans who held demonstrations across the country to demand protection for the land, air, and water. Earth Day came about as the result of concerted environmentalist action, and artists played an important role in that process. The Ecology symbol was created by artist Ron Cobb, and the icon gained in popularity before the founding of Earth Day. Cobb’s symbol, first published in 1969, combined the letter "E" (for earth and environment), with the letter "O" (representing wholeness and unity).

One of my first commissioned (though non-paying) design jobs was a silk-screened "First Earth Day Poster" in college.

Wow! Thanks Ernestine for the history of Earth Day it's great to hear from someone who has first hand knowledge of it's early days. Do you still have that poster?!  Smiley
