Approval Process?
Mar 11th, 2009, 8:45am

undecidedI guess I don't understand the approval process on here. I see some people get alot of their cards approved all at once, and here all I get Is 1 approved and it is usally the most recent one instead of the older one. All I had is 3 cards to approve. Please tell me why this is so? Jonice

Just thought I would let you know that I have been wondering the same thing since I first started here.  Other artists have piles of cards approved, and they go through as dates much more recent than when mine were entered....and then when mine were finally approved, it was 2 cards at a time often.  I entered just one card on the weekend, to see what will happen - Saturday, I think.  It is still not approved as I write this note.

I assume they are giving the long-time artists preference...or maybe it is based on how many cards you have waiting.  In any case, I'm not very happy about it.  I have no excitement about this anymore....and I have at least 70 cards I could be loading.

What can I say?

I don't feel there is any favoritism, as I see the same thing.  It has always been that way.

I wouldn't fret too much about it, as I have been reviewing my 1500+ cards and the vast majority of them have never sold, and some have only had a few clicks on them even after many months "out there."  A few months from now you won't remember which ones were approved in a day and which ones took 4 days.

Be aware that most of us have a few cards that sell very well and that's what keeps us going.  You never know if the card you're putting up will be a good seller or not.

Good luck!

TOM

ps:  By the way, I have 4 cards waiting as well, one that was put up on Saturday too ..... all in good time.

I understand the whine Michele, I was upset when I first started.

There are those that seem to always get their cards done quickly. I'm sure GCU has a reason for this but I admit it is frustrating. They know their business and are doing their best.

I found that I have to just keep making cards, as long as I have some in the queue I always have some coming out each day.  They don't make the front of the list but I don't mind anymore. I don't hold my breath for each one.

Just enjoy making cards. It is a fun, exciting process, you've got some great cards, just let them flow.

I love your attitude...and your art.

And it was so nice of you to give me that little bit of feedback; we all need that once in a while, and I so appreciate it.

I am the same way. I used to be so upset when I would have cards sit for awhile and someone else's cards would go up prior to mine, even though they were created after mine.  Angry It doesn't mean I'm not irritated by it. But, there doesn't appear to be anything I can do about it, so, I've had to learn to let it go.  Sad Currently I have 159 cards pending, although they all weren't made the same day. I've just gotten used to not showing up at the beginning of the new cards.   Sad

Secret to a happy life, right, Kathy?  "Let it go"

Pick your battles...and always keep in mind, "How important is it?"

But Thanks for voicing the understanding, nonetheless.

We feel much better now - at least I do.  How about you, Jonice?

As a data point, I responded to a New Card request yesterday at 1:30pm and was assigned card number 387391.  Louise posted a card for that request today at 10:30am and was given card number 387866.  That's 475 cards in 21 hours, or 22-23 cards and hour.  This also says they took in about 550 cards in the last 24 hours.

Given that the reviewers have a number of things to check, including to see if we've used that same image before, it can be a rough job, and I give them great credit.  Although we have a lot of older cards in wrong categories out there, new ones now go where they belong and it is rare to find a word misspelled in an approved card.  Hats off to the reviewers!

There is no question that the reviewers do a good job.

They have an overwhelming amount of things to check and an ever increasing amount of cards.

I don't think Michele was worried about waiting in line, just the selection process that leaves some waiting.  I have described it before as being like waiting in line at the airport with our shoes in one hand and a bin full of our belongings in the other. While we wait the flight crew arrives and is shuffled through. We don't mind them getting through but it always makes us look at our stocking feet and feel a little less special.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions and respondses. I feel alittle better knowing I am not the only one that has noticed these things going on. I will keep making cards and wondering though. LOL! Wink Jonice

Excellent analogy, -Whisper-

In any case, up til now, I've taken all those things into consideration - the huge number of cards going thru - the fact that individuals send thru high numbers of cards (why shouldn't they get responded to, at least on a percentage-type basis?) - the fact that the experienced people have a better idea of what sells - the fact that those facts would give them "seniority" any place else they work. Smiley

AND the fact that the reviewers are checking every single keyword and category of the new people meticulously, to make sure we get the right idea of how to do things right in the first place (I can attest to that. LOL)

Sooo...yes I was whining...and trying to give encouragement and understanding to those who feel lost and forgotten and unspecial (as I myself, in this situation).  Sometimes it just feels good to say things so you know you're not crazy, and things don't keep building up inside.  Before you get really mad and say.....ahem.

I totally agree that the reviewers are doing an exceedingly immense job - and doing it very well.  I wasn't questioning THEM - just as -Whisper- said - it was "the process".  In reality, the problem is MY problem, the fact that it takes me so long to get each card to the stage of even entering it - and then I hang around waiting to see what happens with them once they're in there.  Smiley

While we're talking about who's doing a good job here, "Hats off!" to people like Tom and -Whisper- and all the other artists that I've seen consistently jump in and help the "newbies" and everyone else, when they have problems or complaints.

CGU should be paying you guys a Public Relations Fee! Smiley  It's amazing the amount of your own time that you spend helping others and smoothing waters.

I, for one, say THANKS! and Congratulations on your giving spirit.

There!  Now!  That should be it for me, for the next six months or so.  I really should get working on some cards.

Thank you, but I'm sure that Tom does it for the same reason I do.

I/we want GCU to succeed. If helping others heads us to that goal we all make out. When I first got here it was the warm community that made me welcome. I enjoyed the way artists helped each other. Personally, I want it to always be a helping, sharing place so I do what I can, when I can. Tom and others do too.

I'm going to go hide now.

but...  it should not take so long to approve a requested card.  I can't rem. if they said 48 hrs. til the customer can expect them or not??  But... 2 days to approve them just seems too long!
