Holiday descriptions and dates
Feb 27th, 2009, 10:42am

It would be helpful to shoppers to have a description, or a link to a description page, in the category browse page for each holiday.  So under Nurse's Day, there should be some info on WHEN it is, and a short summary description perhaps of what the holiday is about.

Also, the link to the main Holiday page,
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/holidays/
could added to the holiday main category area on the All Cards page.

Plus, there are some holidays on the
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/holidays/ page
that are missing their links to the paper card categories, such as Veteran's Day. (FYI)

Oh, and I just came up with another idea.  Has GCU considered informing the "holiday" shopper of the upcoming holidays beyond the holiday they have just selected a card for?  For instance, if they just bought a St. Patricks day card, inform them, perhaps via a pop-up and link, that Easter is only a few weeks away too and they may want to add to their order.

Tom,

You normally have such great idea, but I have to protest the pop-ups. I HATE them and I think most people feel the same. Maybe we can put out heads together and come up with another way. Also, if a customer has signed up on the site, isn't there a reminder service where they can fill out which holidays they want to be reminded about?  Or maybe it's another reminder service I'm signed up for . . .

I have to agree with Pattiann on this one, Tom. A lot of web surfers (myself included) use pop-up killers because too many sites try to hijack your browser.

Good idea on the holiday descriptions, though.  Smiley

Yeah, I have to agree with Corrie. Hate Pop-ups! You don't want to blast customers with stuff. That's my two cents.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Tom,

I'd like to add re-visiting the 'Holidays on the home page', subject again. I do feel that it would be better to have the 'Upcoming Holidays Box' (that shows on the upper right of the page currently opened through the All Cards link on the home page) on the home page somewhere, where shoppers will notice it and see what's coming. Often we hear of holidays on the news, today is......., and think I wish I had known I would have sent so and so a card. Any opportunity to remind or show a shopper the holidays that are coming seems smart selling to me. I know we have the promotions box but it's very near-sighted in what's coming along. A broader outlook would be helpful.
As for a reminder before the customer fulfills their order, this has merit, perhaps another way other than pop-up is possible.

Also thanks for pointing out the missing paper card links in the Holiday page, I know there are cards for Nurses Day so that needs adding.

Yes, I hate pop-ups too.  Perhaps the programmers have a better answer to this.

Good points all.
