Verse on the inside of cards
Feb 19th, 2009, 4:37pm

Hello GCU Administrators,
I just received some of my cards that I created and ordered and I am soooooo happy with the quality of the final printed product. Grin  I do, however have one question. Do we artists and verse writers have any control over the 'leading' of the type when it is entered.  I love using the Papyrus typeface, but I noticed that my verses seem to be a little bit crowded line per line. Would I be better off choosing another typeface for my verses? Or is this just a characteristic of multiple line verses?  I just want to add that I truly enjoy having my cards on the GCU site, and everyone is so helpful and inspiring.
Thanks for your time. Smiley

Betty,

Isn't it great to see hard copies of your images?  I too am very happy with the quality.

I use a variety of typefaces (depends on the mood of the card, etc.).  Papyrus is a favorite, and I haven't noticed a problem with it, but my inside verses are generally short.  As far as I know we do not have much control over the type except for the obvious (pt size and color).

Linda

PS Your cat illustrations are fantastic.  Are you categorizing them in "Animal>Cats" as a secondary category whenever possible?

Hello Linda,
Many thank yous for responding to my question so quickly. The verses on my cards were perfectly readable.  I guess all those years when I had to answer to hyper-critical art directors on the smallest details still hangs over my head. Roll Eyes   You're so right, it's nice to get hard copies.  By the way, I love your graphics.  You are truly a very seasoned greeting card designer, with a keen eye for what works.
Thanks again,
Betty

Hi Betty, and welcome!   Your kitty cards are just precious!

Re the inside verse leading .... arrrrghhh!  This has been a problem for me too since the last (or was it the previous?) printer took over.  I've mentioned it to GCU a few times -- it actually caused one of my clients to order cards from me through another vendor at Christmas.  What seems to work best for me is staying with either the Comic Sans, Maryvale or Snell Roundhand fonts ... they don't seem to "squish" as badly as the other fonts do.  Play around with them and see what works for you, that's my best advice for now ... unless, maybe we could get the printer to adjust the leading ...??  (hint, hint)   Wink

Again, Betty welcome and best wishes for great success and many sales!   Smiley
