Some help Please
Jan 2nd, 2009, 2:56pm

Hi there
I was wondering if some one could look at my store and give me some ideas of categories for my cards, I was told that it is great to get lots of cards out in different categories.
I seem to place most of them in encouragement and some in romance and valentines
I just need to start thinking out of the box
Also can you use the same card for different categories.
Like one for valentines and then re submitting the same card for romance, or friendship?
Thanks ahead guys
Em

I try to do as many catagories as I can, but most I guess are holiday and things as they go along, but then I go off in all directions Smiley

You can do x3 of a card , although I do tend to put wording on the front, for valentines, romance etc so they are changing, I have some with a lot of duplicates in the art but the wording on the front and internal change, so I could have one design if it is good enough for a brithday for example from 1-6 so that would be 6 of ther same immage but different numbers and wording.

No idea what the rules are though Smiley I tend to bimble along.

Try to be one step ahead of each up and comming holiday even if it is one card perhaps Smiley I am a bit on the new side and just trying to get as many as I can out there. Cards are nice to by the way Smiley Smiley

And Happy New Year to all.

Emelisa,

You can see a listing of the card categories here:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/dir_map.asp?a=1

This list also tells you how many cards are in each category. You could look through and designs cards for those categories that don't have many cards in them.

You can also go to
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/analytics.asp
and see what keywords customers are using to find GCU.

This will show you the keywords customers use once they're on GCU to find a card:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/onsite_search_new.asp

And this will show you the top selling categories for the last 30 days:
http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/community/topcat.asp

All of these tools are available on your manage store front interface under ""Reports and Analysis"

Remembering that these are the keywords GCU ranks high enough for to turn up on the customer's search. If customers didn't get to GCU for 'Christmas card' or 'greeting card' searches, it is probably because GCU doesn't turn up high enough on the search results. I would like to see GCU use the word 'greeting' more than just two or three times on it's home page. It could use the word almost everytime it uses the word 'card', which is used alot. I fear GCU will never rank high enough for this search term if it does not use the word wherever it legitimately can...

Hi Emelisa, Hopefully I am understanding you correctly that you need help with putting text on the front of your cards, with Photoshop. I am no Photoshop expert but I also have the new photoshop and to add text on the front of my cards I do the following.
Open a file of your card and from the layer menu across the top of the screen choose new... layer, hit OK. A new highlighted layer will appear in your layers window ( if you can't see your layers window go under 'window' at top of screen and select 'layers')
From the tools bar on the left of your screen click on the 'T' for type.
Click on your image and type in your text then click on the highlighted layer in the layers window, it will appear in the layer window.
You can make adjustments to font style, size, color etc from the Character window (if not showing go under 'window' and click on character)
To move text around go to the tools on the left and click on the top icon the one with an arrow and a cross shape. Click on the type on your image and move around.
If you want to alter the words click on the 'T' in the tools again and make any changes. Click as above.
I am learning photoshop by trial and error and found this way works for me.

Don't know if this is helpful and if this is what you are after, my apologies if you already know this and it's not what you were asking.  embarrassed
Pam

Emelisa,
Thank you, and so happy you have words! Smiley Smiley Smiley I don't know the correct terms for many things computer so I'm happy you could figure out my instructions. Now you have words.... Check out the 'fx' box on the bottom bar of the Layers window it does all sorts of 'magical' things to your text.

If anyone needs it, I maintain a photography blog with photoshop tutorials in PDF format so you can download them and use them at your leisure. It's here: Photography Blography On the right hand side you'll see the listing of tutorials broken up into "photography", "photoshop", and "other" to make it easier to find what you need.
